SWEET AS CANDY - FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY I hosted a sweet as candy birthday party for my daughter, Kyla's First birthday. For the invitations I cut out ovals from cardstock, and then put a slit
on each end on the inside of the card.
I threaded a 8" long, wide pink and white striped ribbon through the back into each of the front slits, so it looked liked the ends of a candy. As guests arrived at the house, there were giant lollipops leading up the driveway and a pink feather boa wreath with a pink/white striped bow on it. To make the huge lollipops, I took pink pool noodles, and wrapped a 1" wide peice of tape around it in a spiral. I then rolled the noodle up and put clear tape around the perimeter to hold the round shape. A wooden dowel was inserted into the lollipop for the "stick" - Everyone just loved these! For Kyla's highchair I made a pink slipcover with pink feather boas sewn into the seams.I took a white party hat and covered it with pink satin, put marabou feather trim around it, and decorated it with a rhinestone "one". We set up a long table on large paint cans so that it was low and had a pink/white striped tablecloth, and white children's chairs. The centrepeice was a pink galvanized tin bucket with feather boa trim. I loaded it with salt and then put lollipop shaped/pink and white swirled cookies in it. We had pink and white hellium balloons tied to the handle. We have a ledge around the perimeter of our room, so I alternated pink and white hellium balloons on weights around the whole room, one every foot. For the ceiling we did four draped white peices of fabric with a huge pink bow in the middle. I wrapped bolster shaped pillows with pink fabric and tied the excess fabric on each end to resembles pink candies. For food we served pink bread and white bread finger sandwiches , fruit with pink dip, pink and white marshmallows, pink popcorn, pink froot loops, and pink pudding cups. Of course we served pink punch, pink grapfruit spritzers, pink lemonade, and for the kids pink hot chocolate with pink marshmallows. We had a pink and white candy buffet for the adults as well with white chocolate dipped pretzels, pink button candy, white mints, pink wafer cookies, pink smarties, pink jordan almond candies and more. The cake that I made was just a round cake - I iced it with pink icing and then swirled sprinkles to look like a lollipop, added a short wooden dowel and tied a big pink satin bow on it. For the adults I made pink strawberry cheesecake with a pink chocolate dipped strawberry! Since I own my own purse business, I made the girls pink and white striped purses with a pink boa trim filled with candy shaped goodies for their goody bags. Kyla's birthday is in March, and people are already wondeirng what I'm going to do next!!!!
