When I asked my son what he wanted to do for his 8th birthday, he said he wanted a banana party.So we started off by mailing banana shaped invitations to all of his friends. It read. . . Who '8' all of the bananas??? We think (child's name) did!!  The invites were a hit and it started a lot of excitement among his classmates who were used to going 'out' for parties!  All children were asked to bring a banana but we had extra on hand of course.  First the bananas were judged by the children one at a time.  each banana recieved a prize for best color longest stem most brown spots etc. We then played musical bananas. there were posterboard bananas taped to the floor and we played "musical chairs". We also read a story and everytime the word banana was read the children passed a small gift to the right. If any other fruit was mentioned they passed the gift to the left. We also moved outside for a very fun relay race. My son and I had made a banana tree out of cardboard and construction paper.  The bananas were made of posterboard and each one had a movement written on the back. two teams one child from each team ran to the tree grabbed a banana and had to do that action on their way back to their team. (ex. cart wheels skip crab walk) This was a hit and we ended up playing it 3 times!  Then it was time for cake and banana splits.  The children had fun making their splits and making a small mess! We gave small  yellow goodie bags filled with fruit shaped candy and banana flavored gum along with other small toys. This was a creative idea from my son and we had a great time with it! "
