My son enjoyed his 10 year old birthday party today.
He is a bit of an artist so he drew a piture of a bionicle and we scanned it into the invitation. We thought of including some bionicle coded words but didn't take the time. We used a font that had a sci-fi feel. The party began with each of the 11 boys and one brave girl receiving a Glatorin to build (30 mins). Then we launched into a Bionicle Action Figure Game whose directions are included in the building instructions of the Glatorin. We had cut in half hanging clothes moving boxes so that we had long rectangles with high sides. Then we paired kids on temporary teams with 4 kids per box. We played rock-paper-scissors to decide which team started. All the kids put their bionicle in their box. And then one child on the team began by shooting at the other team's bionicle. The kids took turns shooting and going to where their bullet landed. If they shot a another team's the shot bionicle lost a point on their point gage. The team that makes the other team lose all their points wins. Then we made it like Bunko and had the winning teams move to the better numbered box and the losing team stayed at their box. And team mates re-mixed and played again. This way the kids were'nt stuck on a bad team and got to play with lots of different kids. We played for 45 mins. We had planned to play outside with sleeping bags as the boundaries but had snow so we used the boxes which ended up working well. Then the kids were divided into 3 groups. One group went to the shooting galllery and shot at old bionicles. The kids used a nerf gun with six bullets. One point for a hit; two for a knock-down. Another group did timed bionicle builds and would rotate to do another of the four builds. The last spot was a free build table for creativity. We took pictures of the child with the build to be included in the thank you. I made a chocolate cake and did the cupcake thing on top to look like a lego. I included a bionicle on top with his foot on top of one of the cupcakes. I also had a bowl of those little lego candies and a bowl of square pretzels and root beer. We partied for 2 1/2 hours and ended with a free-for-all war. All the kids went home with a Glatorin and a balloon. Balloons were the only decorations. Good clean fun. The thank you will include a picture of the attendee with their free build and a picture of my son with the gift along with a thank you sentiment.
