Block Party

May 2008

We have such great, close neighborhood and every year we have a block party. My neighbor, Kim, and I were in charge of it this year.  We decided to hold it in April. Invitations- I put a picture at the bottom.  These are from Oriental Trade and are SO cool! Decoration- We got everything possible at Oriental Trade.  We rented five tents and put them down the street.  We got pink and orange balloons and hung them all over the street.  Activities- We designated each tent something- the kid's tent, the adult tent, the food tent, prize tent, and the entry tent. When you arrived, you went to the entry tent and bought a wristband for $5 a piece.  The kid's tent had a bowling game, ring toss, duck pond, milk bottle toss, beanbags, darts, and balloon pop.  The adult tent had beer pong, dice game, rented slot machines, bingo, and square dancing lessons. The food tent had stuff like hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, cotton candy, pretzels, and fun stuff served on carnival plates and napkins. When you won something, you got a certain amount of tickets. At the prize tent, you could exchange these tickets for prizes. The prizes ranged from fake tattoos, pencils, glow-in-the-dark bouncy balls, and bubbles to $10 Wal-Mart gift certificates.  Also, each house had an activity. There were eight houses participating. The first house had a couple bouncy house type things. The second had a hat decorating contest. The third had a raffle going on. Our house had clowns and balloon animals.  The fourth had glow sticks and stuff for sale.  The fifth had 10 elephant pinatas throughout the day. The sixth was teaching how to make ice cream and then serving it.  The seventh had limbo and tug-of-war.  The eighth house had water gun fights.  When it started to get dark, we lit a bonfire and the kids played with sparklers. When they left, they got a small bag with a couple pieces of candy, little banners that said THANKS FOR COMING and a pencil.
