My daughter's birthday is in early fall when the weather turns bearable here in the south. We decided to host the party at a local park that has large fields and a playground and for the extra
excitment we made it a bubble party. The invites were home made simple cards with bubble artwork frame and join us ... for snacks and cake and LOTS AND LOTS OF BUBBLES!" Being the end of
summer there are huge clearance deals on all things bubbles - so I picked up lots of party packs of bubbles lots of different style wands even a battery powered bubble machine. Online is a
good resource for some do-it-yourself wand instructions like taping a handful of coffee straws together or punching holes in plastic container tops. If you have older kids you can have pieces
of anything (rope wire mesh etc) and see if they can make something that will create a bubble. There are also websites that will give you recipes for creating the "perfect" bubble
juice. I saved up gallon milk containers for a few weeks rinsed them out of course and poured a good helping of liquid dish soap and added water and let it sit open for a day or two to let it
foam down. On the day of the party we packed up the truck and set claim to an area near the playground and the bathrooms. We brought our own canopy/tent and a few folding tables for the
snacks and cake. We also brought my daughers plastic wading pool and filled it with probably 4 or 5 gallons of the bubble juice and threw in all the blowers. As the kids arrived they had a
choice to catch the bubbles made by the power blower blow their own bubbles play on the playground or just run around on the grass. With the amount of kids that came they were everywhere!
Once the majority were there we did a special bubble trick. Taking out all the blowers out of the pool I set a hula-hoop in and a small kitchen step stool in the pool. Birthday girl was first
on the stool standing very still as 4 year olds need to be reminded I raised the hula-hoop up around her making her be "in" the bubble! It was very exciting for both the kids and
adults. I had never done a trial run before the party and heard that wind could cause some trouble too. We did have a slight breeze so most of the kids only had the bubble up half-way before
it popped but some did manage to go over their heads. It usually takes a few lifts to get a good one going. I let everyone who wanted a chance get at least one - some I think were too nervous
to stand there so opted out. Warning for whoever will be doing the hula-hoop lifting - your thighs will be getting a work-out! We had roughly about 15 big bubble partipants + 3-4 hoop lifts
each = not being able to walk the stairs for 2 days! For the snacks - simple preschool snacks grapes orange wedges goldfish and juice pouches and a homemade pull apart cupcake-cake. The
tables were set kid-level so everyone was able to grab their own. And of course everyone got bubbles of their own to take home along some other goodies. Everyone enjoyed the party and I heard
alot of "that was so cool did you see that BIG bubble I was in!" And since we were outside - easy cleanup - paper plates in the trashcan and crumbs left for the birds!"
