CHICKEN-LICKEN FIRST BIRTHDAY! My daughter is turning one in May...and since my husband nicknamed her "chicken-licken" (because from the day she was born, she has been sticking her
tongue out alot!), I decided to do a Chick themed party! DECORATIONS: Since her birthday is only about a month after Easter, I've been lucky enough to find several chick related things
in the stores. I've bought plates with chicks on them, and will get yellow cups to match.
Purple is going to be the coordinating color, so I've bought purple napkins and will get purple forks. I have gotten some little chenille chicks as well to scatter around the tables. And, of course, yellow and purple streamers will be everywhere. ENTERTAINMENT/GAMES: We are good friends with a man known as "The Chicken Man" (Jerry Isaacs, you may have seen him on America's Funniest People before), and he is coming to sing, what else...the "Chicken Song"!! I'm also considering buying/borrowing some baby chicks for the kids to pet...if I can find someone who has them nearby. And, for games, 1. I'm going to tell the kiddies that momma chicken has laid her eggs around the yard, and they have to find them! (Basically an egg hunt, like Easter) I'm going to put little chenille chicks in each egg, so it's like the baby chicks are hatched when they open the eggs! 2. We'll play "Hen, Hen, Chicken" (It's "Duck, duck, goose, just change the name!) 3. For the older kids, I'm going to play Egg Relay - Divide the kids into two teams & have each team line up one behind the other. THen, give the first person a spoon and an egg (If you have to play this indoors...you can use a hard boiled egg) THey must carry their egg with one hand to a line you've drawn (at least five feet away, maybe more for older kids) and back and hand it off to the next person. The first team to finish without dropping their egg wins. Have extra eggs so if one team drops theirs you can replace it! FOOD: Chicken salad sandwiches, chicken nuggets for the kids, chips, lemonade (since it's yellow!) CAKE: I'm going to bake a basic cake...frost it a pale purple, and then pipe baby chicks on the top - here's how to do the chicks: Pipe a one inch yellow ball of frosting and then pipe a 1/2 inch ball of yellow on the top of that. THen, use black to make to small dots for the eyes, and orange to make a beak (just squeeze out a dot of icing and then pull on the bag to form a beak). ALso use the orange to make feet. Then, add yellow wings the same way. FAVORS: I'm going to try to find large egg shaped easter baskets to use for the favor holders. Then, I'm putting in yellow and purple chick PEEPS (you know, the marshmallow things!) I'll also put in a chenille chick for each child, and a chick shaped cookie that I'm going to bake ahead of time. I thik the kids will have a great time at this one, and it's a change of pace to the usual First birthday party! I hope you get some ideas you can use!
