For my daughter's 5th birthday party we did a catwalk theme.
I downloaded youtube videos of children's catwalks and made them into a video, I bought a cd with great catwalk music to it. I made my own invitations inviting the kids to dress up in any clothes that they wanted, and their parents to be the paparazzi. The parents were asked to make the experience more real by bringing cameras with flash. The invitations I embossed with a glass slipper stamp and glitter. The other side of the invitations were an Admittance ticket" that said "Please admit one___________ plus_______adults & _________children" Disclaimer: I understand that by accepting this invitation I(we) are agreeing to attend in full party dress and the above named individual will strut their stuff in the fashion parade. For the party itself we rented a local hotel that had a dance floor (wooden squares that they could rearrange into whatever shape) which I rearanged into a T. I borrowed the hotel's screen divider for one end played my catwalk video on their t.v. and brought my ipod with my catwalk music on it. I arranged chairs along the catwalk length for the parents printed a "program of events" that was laid on each chair and placed my camcorder on a tripod at the end of the catwalk. At the beginning of the party we explained to the children what we wanted them to do and then we had my friend stand at the top of the catwalk giving space between the kids as they strutted their stuff parents taking pictures & cheering video rolling. When they were done we played party games such as Pin the tie on the birthday girl (I printed out a life sized picture of my daughter and a bunch of ties (the kids got to color them first) and then blindfolded put them on her picture pass the parcel in which I handmade the parcel with ties hair clips and other dress up small items and when then the catwalk was transformed into a dance floor the kids played freeze dance (dance and freeze when the music stops) and got prizes for the best poses and such. For going home bags I went to the dollar store and got paper handbags and filled them with dress up items (boas stoles princess stuff) for girls and pirate stuff swords etc for boys. Later we made copies of the video and gave it to all the participants. This party was such a hit. The theme alone had many people attending simply because they wanted to see how I was going to do it. Organization was the key to this one but it was the most memorable party that I have ever been to for a girl! The reason I did the dancefloor into a catwalk shape rather than risers was that we invited siblings and I was worried about smaller kids falling off. "
