My son is obsessed with colonial American history, so we decided to have a colonial birthday party.
The invitations were made on the computer in historic looking font. We put a picture of a colonial soldier inviting everyone to the party, and asked that they dress in red, white and blue. We printed them on parchment paper to give them an old look. The birthday boy (8Yrs) dressed as George Washington. My husband was dressed as a colonial man greeting all of the guests. I made colonial bonnets for the girls and ordered Tricorn hats for the boys(oriental trading) The kids recieved these as they came into the house. It was summer so we were able to do it all outside. We had a few long tables set up in the driveway for dinner and cake. We also had red, white and blue streamers long the fence and many American Flags set up around the property. The children participated in old time" games. They had potato sack races and did pin the declaration on Thomas Jefferson.(my son drew a picture iof Thomas Jefferson on cardboard and we printed out tiny Declarations from the computer. We also had a magician come and do magic tricks for the kids. I had a station set up for the kids to write with an authentic Quill pen and ink. The craft was to decorate a wooden top(oriental trading)using markers or paint. I served macaroni and cheese(homemade) pizza ( not really colonial but all kids eat pizza) I made cupcakes that were red white and blue inside with red white and blue icing. I also made a homemade cake from the colonial Williamsburg cookbook. For the favors I had "colonial slates"(chalk boards) and rock candy. The children also got to keep their hats. We had many different ages and both boys and girls and they all had a blast. "
