My daughter was turning 10 and was very excited about being double digits. We decided on having a double feature party.
We made cool invites that looked like a movie screen with all the party information and we also added an admission ticket with a glue dot. Then we rented a hugh movie screen from somone we found on the internet. It cost 150.00 for the screen the sound system and the vcr. We also rented a popcorn machine that we had set on a table that had all the same stuff you would see in the snackbar, candy hot dogs, soda. For decorations we cut stars out of cardboard and spraypainted them gold. Then as kids RSVP'd I wrote their name on a star. The night of the party the stars were taped down to the sidewalk in front of our neighbor's yard. Make sure this is done prior to anyone getting there as it was also fun looking at the names as they walked to the house. When they got to the house they walked up a red carpet (actually a red plastic roll of table cloth). There were star shaped lights hanging from the porch and it looked terrific! For games we had a scavenger hunt. The items to find were all movie related, ticket stub, 3-d glasses, soda bottle, popcorn kernel, candy etc. This was done right when the party started which worked out for both safety and because we could not see the movie until the backyard was dark enough. Then we played charrades, let the kids use both movement and their voices at this age. Also, let them pick who they want to immitate. We had the variety from Elvis to Spongebob. For prizes we gave the glow in the dark necklace or bracelet. That worked out economically too as it ended up being like .80 each bought in bulk. The kids all wanted to participate as they wanted the glow in the dark stuff to wear during the movie. Lay blankets down and have the kids sit in front of the screen and enjoy. Remember to have them bring jackets as the kids did start getting cold at the end of the party. My daughters friends from school and softball, and girlscouts all loved the party. The parents and kids told me it was the best party they had been to.
