John's Favorite Movies:  Fourth Birthday Party  I decided to throw a movie-themed birthday party for my son based on his 3 favorite movies. I decorated by having a plastic "red carpet" rolled out in front of the house and a limo parked in our driveway (just because my husband has one a work that we could use for free.) I drew stars with sidewalk chalk coming up the front walk of our house and wrote the name of a party guest in each one for our "walk of fame."  Inside I had stars hanging from the ceiling, star-shaped balloon weights, and plastic Oscar statues on the fireplace mantel.  I also placed clapboards around that said John's 4th Birthday Take 4 Scene 4. For food we ate star-shaped cookies, star-shaped Rice Krispie Treats on sticks, and large boxes of movie theater candy purchased from the dollar store. His favorite movies are Godzilla, Jaws, and The Blob.  I ordered a 6 foot long sandwich which we called our Godzilla-sized sandwich. I made jelly "Blob" sandwiches and peanut butter and "Blob" sandwiches.  They also ate Jello "Blobs."  We had a lot of adult family members at the party too, so I also made an Asian pasta salad which I called "Tokyo Bay Home of Godzilla Pasta Salad." We had 2 cakes. One was made using a dinosaur cake pan, but to make it more Godzilla-like we added scales made from green candy Spearmint leaves.  For the other cake I just purchased an ice cream cake and topped it with several different Godzilla toys. Games included:  Pin the tail on Godzilla Godzilla Claw  (I bought a green claw-shaped sand scoop. The children had to use it to scoop up a prize.)  Feed the Shark (I purchased a big cardboard shark though Shindigz.com. The children had to toss nerf balls through the shark's mouth. We also used this game as a photo opportunity and took a picture of each child looking through the mouth of the shark.)  Fishing for Sharks (Each child won a toy shark by reeling it in on a toy fishing pole.)  Shark Apple Bob (The children bobbed for apples while wearing a shark mask with fin and Jaws-theme music playing nearby.) Godzilla Pinata (It was really a dinosaur, but the one we bought kind of resembled Godzilla.)  Pass the Shark (Played like "Hot Potato." The children passed around a toy shark as Jaws music played. When the music stopped, the child caught holding the shark had to pour a cup of water on their head.)  Godzilla Stomp (I made a town out of cardboard boxes and made Godzilla feet out of fun foam.  The kids had to strap on the feet (using a velcro strap) and stomp through the town without knocking over the buildings. Godzilla Egg Hunt: (I hid small plastic eggs in the backyard--one per child labeled with each child's name. They had to first find that egg with the help of a grown-up.  Inside they found some candy and a clue. The clue led them to a giant plastic egg filled with more candy and small Godzilla toys that I found on-line.) Other Party Activities included: Taking Movie Star pictures by the limo with the children wearing movie star sunglasses which they got to keep. The girls also got to wear a boa for their movie star picture. We have a big screen tv, so I made a sign that said Drive-In Movie Theater. I put red and white striped containers of popcorn around and lined up my children's ride-on cars in front of the tv. My sister-in-law made up a DVD slide show of pictures of the birthday boy's first 4 years and set it to music.  We played the DVD on the big screen. For goodie bags I bought red and white popcorn bags from Oriental Trading and put in a mini clapboard keychain (also from Oriental Trading.) I also included Gummi Sharks, and a container of "Blob" slime, and a mini bag of microwave popcorn.  Now one of my friends is thinking of doing the same type of movie party for her daughter.  The great thing about it is that she can borrow my movie decorations, but it will be a totally different party since her daughter really likes Disney Princess movies. She'll be putting a whole different spin on it.
