Last year my 10, turning 11 year old wanted to have a movie party. Taking 10 kids to the movies wasn't in my budget, but this alternative was. We borrowed (you could rent) a projector that
hooks up to a VCR and let the birthday child choose an age appropriate movie at the video store. Our store held the chosen movie for us so we knew it would be there when we needed it. We hung
a sheet up in the basement playroom to project the movie on. First we served pizza. Then we let the kids pick a pop and served them in lidded cups, like the theatres use. We made fresh
popcorn (gotta have the movie theatre smell) and served it in brown lunch bags. We also set up a table with bowls of candy purchased in bulk. We put tongs in each bowl and gave each guest a
small bag to fill with candy for the movie. Then we settled in on pillows all over the room for the movie. After the show we served a giant pizza cookie instead of cake and opened presents.
The guests were sent home with Hollywood treat bags filled with glitzy jewelry, rhinestone sunglasses, feather hair accessories, bags of microwave popcorn (unpopped for future consumption),
and assorted candies. The party was a huge hit with the age group. There's still something cool about watching something on a BIG screen!
