The Drive Inn.
My husband and I turned our backyard into a drive-inn theatre, complete with concession stand. We sent movie tickets to the kids my 6-year old wanted to invite to his party. At dusk, when the children arrived with their parents, we collected the tickets at the gate and handed them each a treat bag complete with pretend money. They had to use their pretend money at the concession stand. Tables were set up in the yard for the concession stand and they could purchase hot dogs, popcorn, assorted candy bars, ice cream bars and assorted pop and juice boxes. My husband threw a large white sheet over our shed and hooked up the VCR, LCD projector (borrowed from work) and stereo and speakers outside, and we projected a movie onto the sheet. We had blankets on the ground for all the kids to sit on and lawn chairs in the back for the parents. It was such a success that some of our other neighbors came over and we had to run out and rent another movie. We've had several requests to have another "drive-inn" night this summer.
