Hunger Games Party

December 2011 x

I am a major fan of the hunger games because its so original. One day i had the idea to make a party out of it!!   Invitation: First I went on the internet and found fonts that resembled the one on the book. Just type in hunger games font on google and many options will show up. Then i was very lucky and I found these pictures of all the different districts written on them and there industry such as farming, mining.... Then i put everything together and made it sound fancy on the invite.    For the actual party people showed up dressed as the character from the district they were assigned and they would be interviewed by my brother while someone was filming them. After the interview was over we all sat down at a long table with fancy plates and wine glasses. We ate spagetti and meatballs with salad and pretended soda was wine. Over each of our heads was a parachute made out of tin foil and pipe cleaners hung from the celing. In each parachute there was candy for dessert like hershy kisses m+m's and starbursts. After dinner we all changed into jeans sneakers and dark shirts for the actual game. I led everyone outside and on our porch there was hot chocolate and snacks waiting for the people who got killed" in the game. No one was actually hurt in this game by the way.   Before the game started I set up a training course. you had to jump through hula hoops and go through an obstacle course. This was similar to the training part in the book.  To actually play the game is a little confusing. Everyone has a belt around them with 2 ribbons attached to the belt. You want to get the ribbons off of the belt. If you lose your ribbons you are "dead". The tricky part about this game is finding the people and actually holding them down to get the ribbon. That sounds too easy right? There are also weapons scattered around the playing field such as a slingshot to fling marshmallows jumprope nets hula hoops and lots of rope. Say if I got hit with a marshmallow I would have to stand still for 2 seconds. Or if I'm hiding in a tree and I have a hula hoop with rope I could drop the hula hoop over someone. If i caught them they wouldn't be able to escape unless I got their ribbon. You cannot steal 2  ribbons from the same person at one time and they get a 20 second headstart before your allowed to start chasing them. It was still light outside when we started playing. All 12 of us stood on frisbees and there was a loud horn that we bought at the dollar store. For the cornucopia I bought 12 white drawstring bags for $20 and then ironed on the hunger games logo and the date of the party. Inside was food such as water and goldfish and not all people got food some peoples bags were empty for the fun of the game. I also put in weapons such as string and equipment such as flashlights and a blanket(i did this game in January and it happened to snow the day we played it was so much fun!) It took us about 2 hours to finish the game and by the end we were so into it! After the game was over we all ate food and had a dance party. The party lasted about 4 hours. A few of my closest friends slept over. I think everyone enjoyed it! By the way the winner got a gift card to my favorite store. I hope you have a fun hunger games party! and may the odds be ever in  your favor."
