Traditional Slumber Party 12 yr

December 2011 x

Ruby in Ascot, Berkshire, England

This is my Traditional Yet Cool Slumber Party for tween girls. I had it when I was 12, but lots of ages are appropriate from 11-16!!!  INVITATIONS: I went to a stationery shop and found some really pretty invitations with butterflies on them, and thought they would be perfect for this party.  All I had to do was fill in the information on each card, slot it in the envelope and give it to whoever was invited! This was a great way to do things, because everyone thought the invites were beautiful! Happy guests, happy birthday girl! The guests were happy even before the party!  DECORATIONS: My house isn't huge, so I wanted to make the decorations perfect.  I only decorated my bedroom, because this is where we would spend most of the party.  I blew up purple and pale pink balloons and put them all over the floor, and bought a few silver helium ones to place around the room, too.  Then I strung white and blue Christmas lights on the walls, and because my birthday is 29th December, this fit in well with Christmas. It all looked really pretty in there, and when the lights were turned off, the fairy lights looked amazing. I was very happy with how it had worked out.  ACTIVITIES: Once the guests arrived, I took them all up to my bedroom, and my mum came to help out.  We all sat on the floor because my bedroom is very big. The guest's things were in the living room downstairs. The first activity was Pass the Parcel.  The guests were a bit puzzled, but it turned out to be really fun! To make this game cooler, my mum played all our favourite songs and the prize at the end was a nail polish set from Claire's.  The second activity was Musical Chairs. We went downstairs for this game, as all the chairs could fit in there. To make this game more fun, we purchased two EXTREMELY CHEAP beanbags, and mixed these in with various types of chairs so that they were all different heights, making it harder to sit down on quickly. Some were tall, some were short, etc. Again, we played more songs and the winner got a necklace from Claire's.  After this we had food (see more below) and got on with some more activities. By the end, we had played Truth or Dare, Chubby Bunny (competition to see who can hold the most marshmallows in their mouth and say Chubby Bunny), and Hide and Seek in the dark. Prizes were lipglosses, bracelets, eyeshadows and keyrings from Claire's.  We then got on with the crafts.  We decorated trinket boxes with pens, buttons, sequins, glitter glue, felt, foam, glue and filled them with squares of tissue paper for decoration. We also decorate my mum's fairy cakes with pink/blue frosting, sprinkles, edible glitter and icing, and ate these for desert. Everyone got at least two cakes. After this, we managed to eat a chocolate fondue with strawberries and marshmallows, until we went upstairs with popcorn to watch Elf in my room. Eventually we all fell asleep.  PARTY SNACKS: We had quite a lot of food over the party. We had pizza and salad for dinner, fairy cakes and chocolate fondue for desert, popcorn for movie snacks, bagels, cream cheese, fruit kebabs, toast and cereal for breakfast and drinks were coke, squash and cranberry juice. These snacks were all delicious and, surprisingly, not too expensive. FAVORS: Me and my mum thought of an inventive idea for the favors.  We purchased small, plain black boxes and filled them with a £5 giftcard for Claire's and a bunch of candy necklaces, gummy sweets and chocolates, then covered it with scrunched up squares of tissue paper in turquoise and wrapped the boxes in bright pink ribbon. Everyone's name was written on the box in metallic purple pen. The boxes looked so cool, and everyone a few weeks later, me and my friends used the giftcards to go to the cinema together! We all had a great time at my party, and I don't usually have parties every year, so this was a GREAT one! Hope you liked it!
