My daughter LOVES animals, and I was panicked when she requested an Elephant party, but it ended up being great!
I found a great elephant invitation at InvitingSmiles.com, and our baker was able to use this picture to decorate the elephant on the cake. I found tons of elephant themed decorations and toys at Cost Plus World Market. There were also a couple of items like elephant shaped water squirters I found at Party City. Luckily, Horton Hears a Who merchandise was available for plates and napkins. For games, we played the Dr. Seuss Horton Hears a Who game, which is hilarious - it comes with an elephant trunk that the kids strap on their heads with a piece of velcro on the tip. The flowers also have velcro, and the kids have to try to pick up the flowers with their trunks. Of course, the little kids played Elefun, a game I think is made by Hasbro, where butterflies" fly out of the elephant's trunk and the kids try to catch them with the included nets. We also bought from amazon.com some elephant trunk masks with elastic and played a relay race outside: Each child put on an elephant trunk over their noses put a plastic bangle bracelet on the trunk then had to run across the yard holding the bracelet on the trunk without using their hands. We used the toys from World Market as prizes. I also had printed plenty of coloring pages both Dr. Seuss and real elephants to keep everyone busy. We traced each child's hand then turned it upside down. The four fingers are the elephant's four legs and the thumb is his trunk. Add ears and a tail and it's pretty cute! We served circus peanuts and animal crackers along with the usual party snacks. Goodie bags were just plain white paper bags that I had glued on a die-cut elephant I'd cut out at the school board's media center. It was a fun theme that was appropriate for both boys and girls. I certainly would recommend it."
