My daughter just celebrated her 5th birthday with an Under the Sea theme.
Invitation: I ordered custom invitations with an under the sea design (octopus, submarine, starfish, etc.) The main heading was Come under the sea and celebrate with me!" Decorations: We covered one entire wall with blue transparent paper and cut wave designs at the top to be "water". We taped green crepe paper from the bottom and twisted them up to look like seaweed and we had taped several cut outs of fish shells & starfish onto the "water". I also purchased a treasure chest and hung gold & silver beads around it and I taped a photo collage of my daughter onto the chest and placed it on the snack table. Our neighbor made balloon animals into shapes of an octopus fish crab mermaid and also blew up 2 dozen balloons in blues and greens which we let loose all around the party room. We covered tables in covers of blues and greens and had a small fishbowl filled with goldfish crackers as a centerpiece on each table. Activities: We set up one kids table with kids chairs and had activites lined up throughout the party. The first activity was creating a jellyfish with paper plates cut in half googly eyes & pipe cleaners for legs. They used crayons to color and draw in mouths. The second activity was decorating picture frames. I purchased wooden frames and painted them blue and got a box of sea life foam stickers. Each child got a frame and decorated them with the stickers. The third activity was coloring to keep them busy. I purchased under the sea coloring books and tore out pages and handed them to each child and kept boxes of crayons on the table. The last activity was the pinata. My daughter picked out a rainbow fish pinata and we filled it with lots of candy. Games: My daughter chose to have one game which was one she found at a party store. It was "Pin the Flower on Ariel" It was a poster of Ariel which we taped onto the wall and each child got a flower sticker with their name on it and was blindfolded as they tried to stick it as close to ariel's hair as they could. Costumes: It was not a costume party but my daughter did wear an Ariel costume which we bought on clearance after Halloween! Party Snacks: For the kids we made "peanut butter & jellyfish" sandwiches. I used a fish cookie cutter to cut out little fish sandwiches. We had a tray of goldfish crackers peanuts & pretzels. I filled a glass vase with seashells & took fresh fruit pieces and stuck them on skewers & put them into the vase. I also filled a large glass fishbowl with light blue marbles (to simulate water) and stuck homemade lollipops shaped into different sea animals(sharks seahorses fish starfish turtles) into the bowl. I made fishbowl jello cups. I made blue jello in small clear plastic cups & put a few gummy fish in them and topped it off with whipped cream. Cake: I had a store bought cake with an under the sea theme. I had also purchased small plastic sea animals to also use to decorate cake. I baked cupcakes frosted with blue & green frosting & sprinkles and topped them with plastic sea animals. Favors: In addition to the crafts the kids got to take home I also made goodie bags filled with an under the sea coloring book box of crayons little mermaid checkers fishing game go fish card game goldfish crackers sea animal sand mold & a plush fish. I personalized each bag with the child's name on a fish shaped cut out. Overall the party was a success! I did plan months ahead and was able to get a lot of good deals after the summer since a lot of the items went on clearance! I can't wait to plan another party with a new theme! "
