My son, 8 years, wanted a Harry Potter birthday and my daughter, 5 years, wanted Snowwhite. Their birthdays are only twenty days apart and so we decided to combine them. I told them that the
wicked stepmother had kidnapped Snowwhite again with the help of Voldemort and that my kids and their friends had to help Potter rescue her !!!
Invitation The invitation was in the form of the Daily prophet with 4 pages. The first page carried articles about Snowwhite's disappearance and harry's request to all wizards and witches to help him. The second page was the actual invite with time, place, RSVP etc. The third page was general stuff from wizards and the seven dwarfs etc. The fourth page was sports news about quidditch, some advts etc!! I also made a spellbook with all the spells, curses and jinxes and issued it along with each invite. Decor There was a wicked witch with a cauldron which was actually a pinata. Behind that were the seven dwarfs welcoming the kids into the play area. There was a big Snowwhite cutout made from cardboard. There were two ghosts, the bloody baron and nearly headless nick. There were several bats form construction paper. I had stuck stars to the ceiling to make it look like the enchanted ceiling at Hogwarts. That was a great hit. And the best one was the wishing well complete with painted grey stones and ivy etc. All the decorations were made at home with cardboard, construction paper and paint by myself. I also had a cauldron with dry ice that was smoking in a corner adding to the effect !! Cake There were two separate cakes. My son's was a book with the snitch on top and Harry's glasses. My Daughter's was a cake with a depiction of all seven dwarfs peering out of a door. I got the cake done through my sis in law as I am not too good at baking. Activities, Games and Costumes I made cloaks, caps and wands for all the kids and each kid got theirs when they arrived. They also got a bottle of Felix Felicis to drink (It was just plain Mango Juice)to make them lucky in their endeavour!!! Next, I told them they had to play a game of muggle quidditch on broomsticks which involved dividing them into two teams and making them score goals through a basketball hoop while riding the broomsticks. After about 20 minutes of this, I introduced the snitch I had made. This snitch had two maps already stuffed into it. One team's seeker managed to catch the snitch and even came up with the idea that the snitch had to be opened The map had a lsit of potion ingredients and places to find it. The kids found the ingredients , went ahead to meet the pinata witch , broke the pinata and found chocolates and the recipe for the potion which I had named Renescentia!!! They also found a big brass key that was supposed to unlock the door that snowwhite was locked in. They started making the potion in cauldrons I had set up earlier with dry ice. When it was time to add the final two ingredients (vinegar and baking soda), I told them that the potion had to stew for some time before adding them. In that time we played some games like Pin the Apple on Snowwhite and apple bobbing. They also colored dwarf door knobs that I had made from construction paper and also decorated precut crowns. They got to take these back home as part of their favors. Then they added the final ingredients to the potion and watched it bubble over. They were so excited!!!! I thanked them all very nicely and promised them that I would give the potion and keys to harry Potter later so that he could unlock the door to the room in which Snow white was locked and revive her with the magic potion Renescentia. I then told them they could play the wishing well game. I had made a mat with 2 feet by 2 feet dwarf pictures on them. I had small cards with the same dwarf pictures on them that they could pick from. They could then stand on the corresponding picture on the mat and throw balls into the well. If they manged that, they would get a Honey Dukes bag ( I had made them too with brown paper and drawn some designs on them) that they could fill with sweets from the Honeydukes counter. I had a chocolate frogs counter with actual wizard cards that I had made, elf made eclairs (regular eclairs), Marsh worms (Worm shaped marshmallows), Fizzing Whizbees ( Magic Pop), Acid Pops (Lollipops), Licorice Wands (Regular candy sticks) and of course Bertie Botts beans !!! I made sure that all the kids got a bag of sweets to take home Food We had a regular dinner with Sandwiches for the kids and cake and doughnuts. Favors I had taken printouts of Harry Potter Trivia and Snowwhite Trivia and stuck them on the gift bags. Omniculars (Regular Binoculars) and a Snowwhite patterned cup were the main favors. I had also made Harry Potter glasses for each child. There were Harry and Snowhwite stickers too. And they could of course take their cloaks, hats and wands home. They also got their Honey dukes bag. They also took home their decorated crowns and their dwarf doorknobs!!! It was a party that was well worth the effort that went into it coz all the kids and parents alike were very vocal in their appreciation and the kids kept telling even at school the next day that they had a wonderful time at the party and that my kids parties were the best they ever went to!!!!!
