For my son's 9th birthday we had a Survivor Ponhook Island Party at our campground..we are seaonal cmpers at Ponhook campground..so we invited 10 kids to join us for an overnight Island
adventure...I just used card stock and glued on a pic of a man stranded on an ISland and wrote the details..the kids came to our campsite at 4 for Pizza and Cake..The CAKE was Island
themed...they each brought a sleeping bag and pillow..I gave them each a stainless steel water bottle and put their name on it with a sticker..they filled these with water for the trip.we
loaded everyone on a boat..which was quite large..and headed out to an Island on the lake..the Island has a little beach..so when we got there they had to jump off the boat and swim to
shore...the adults brought their gear ashore..First they had to choose a bandana out of a bag. This was how we chose teams..we had 4 girls and 6 boys.. they wanted boys Vs. boys so we wound up
swapping bandanas..we had White and red teams..They then had to build their SHELTER..I purchased 8X10 camo tarps, each team got one and a ball of twine..they had to gather sticks and brush in
the woods and build a lean to...each team had an adult to help..the shelters turned out great..so it was a girl one and a boy one.the adults built a lean to as well...then they had to gather
wood for the fire...we did not cut down any trees, we only gathered fallen logs..I had a ceramic mask that looked very native, I hung this in a tree in the wood and the kids had to go and
find it.this took quite a while..the boys found it and they got to hang it on their shelter, I also hid individual treat bags with candy and a glo stick inside for them to find....we then had
our campfire and made smores and roasted hotdogs...We had a sing song and the kids performed many songs they learned at church camp...we then had fireworks before bedtime...the shelters were
built right on the beach...so it was quite comfortable..and fun to sleep under the stars...the next morning we rose at 6 and broke camp...we ensured that the island was left in the same
condition as when we found it...when we got back to the campground a full breakfast was waiting, made by one of the other moms...It was an awesome adventure....the adults had as much fun as
the kids...
