For my daughter's 7th birthday, she wanted a 1950's sock hop. So 1st I went to yard sales and thrift stores and found 45's (records) and printed round lables that had all the party
information and placed the lable on the center of the record for invtitatons. I also told everyone to try to wear a 50's outfit to the party. For decorations I bought most of my
supplies at Birthday Direct.com. I got Malt Shop Scene setters and an inflatable jukebox and all sorts of 50's decorations.
We used Hot pink, turquiose, black and white for our color scheme. For treat bags I found jukebox shaped gfts bags at our local Dollar Tree. I filled the with 1950's candy, such as smarties, tootsie rolls, tootsie pops, sugar daddy's etc. (you can find more on the internet.) I also filled them with a jack set, cat sunglasses, and a comb. I gave crayons, necklaces, and I made a CD for each child of 1950's songs too. I used the treat bags as table center pieces and tied the balloons to the handles. For food we had hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato chips. The children got to drink Coke out for glass Coke bottles. We also had Root Beer Floats for everyone. We played several games such as Muscial Chairs to 50's music. We had a hula hoop contest. We had costume judging, and we learned 1950's dances, such as The Twist,The Hand Jive, and The Mashed Potato. At the end of the party the children got to take a treat bag, balloons, and a hula hoop home with them. The children had a lot of fun. Golly and everyone had a real swell time.
