Camping Bug Party 4 & 6yr

September 2009 x

Melissa in Manchester, TN and USA

We planned a party for two boys (6 and 4). We decided to have a camping theme: Invitations: We got Glow-in the Dark Frisbees and made invitations out of labels. They were shaped like a bug jar, we stuck them on the Frisbee.  They stated the following:  Catch the Camping Bug - Bodey and Olley's Birthday Camping Adventure - Todd Campground - date - Address - etc... Decorations: We had the party at night. At the entrance we put large bug catching nets for the guests to walk through.  Once inside we had three large tents set-up, two picnic tables with Lanterns shaped like bugs (walmart summer aisle) and 2 gallon buckets filled with bug juice. Citronella torches were lighted around the yard, a bonfire burning and glow in the dark bugs all throuout the yard. Also throughout the yard we had large inflatable frogs and rubber snakes and lizards for the kids to discover.  On one side of the yard, we set-up the outdoor theater with movie screen, camping chairs, and blankets for the kids.  On the covered porch we had put glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. We had nature music playing in the background - sounded very authentic. The birthday boys were given hats made out of glow sticks (very cute)! Food:  We roasted hotdogs and smores on the bonfire - we also had ants on a log, worms in a bucket and trail mix and bug juice to drink.   Cake:  A Frog Cake and Bug Cup Cakes - the Frog was eating the bugs Activities:  When the kids arrived they all recieved glow bracelets and they were able to play in the tents - they had sleeping bags and camping gear to play camp. Once Dark all the kids were given a flashlights and they went on a bug hunt through the yard to find all the critters (the child with the most bugs won large bugs and 3-D bug puzzles. Enjoyed Cake and Ice-Cream.  And at dark we showed a movie under the stars (Open Season) and the kids were given pop-corn.  After the movie we sat around the camp fire and told campfire stories. We had also had an Adult and Kids version of Corn Hole set-up for the quests to play.  Goody Bags:  Each child was given a Bug Catching Kit - it included a net, twizzers, box, and we filled it with bugs, frogs, snacks, tattoos, and bug shaped candy.  The kids also got to take home their flash lights and bug finds. A great party - all the kids and adults had a wonderful time.  We had kids ranging from 1 to 9.  Good family party!
