Olympic Birthday Party - Any age This party is really great when the olympics are occurring, but fun any other time too.  First of all, my daughter and I put together a guest list.  Once we did this, we assigned each guest a country.  We researched what the flag of each country was and put the flag on their specific invitation. We even found how to say "hello" in each country's language and put that on the invitation. Before the guests arrived, I made an aluminum foil "olympic torch" and torch lantern. (A box with a fan rigged inside of it that had red and orange streamers taped on the edges.) When the guests arrived, each of them received a large flag of their country that we hand made.  We then held the "opening Ceremony" and my daughter, the guest of honor, got to carry the olympic torch. All of the guests followed behind with their flags into the back yard.  My daughter then went to the torch lantern and lit the fire.  (I turned on the fan inside the box and the streamers started blowing like a real fire was burning.) We then held a bunch of olympic games, including the discus throw (paper plate) throw, an obstacle course (each guest was timed), a gymnastics competition, plus many other games. We had drinks and snacks while the games were going on.  (Plenty of gatorade, chips, snack bars, etc.)  After the games were finished, everyone went inside to have hotdogs, fruit, drinks and birthday cake.  While the guests were enjoying themselves, I tabulated all of the results and we held the medal ceremony.  I had made 3 large boxes into 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stands. I also had olympic medals made for each place. We went through each of the games and presented the medals to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.  We had so many games, that everyone won something.  Pictures were also taken each time someone received a medal.  These pictures were ultimately inserted into the thank you cards that were later sent.  All the guests and parents of the guests thought the party was fantastic, because the children not only had fun playing the different olympic games, but actually learned something about different countries too.
