Olympics Birthday Party: I did this party for my daughter the same year as the summer olympics. For the invitation I created them on the computer with the five colored rings on the cover (she
also happened to be turning '5'). The inside read - please come celebrate _____________'s birthday. Date: ______, Opening ceremonies begin __________, Hosting country (our address)
_______________. At the party all the kids gathered in the front of the house as they arrived. I had prepared ahead of time a piece of paper to be pinned to the back of each child's shirt. It
had a large number in the middle (the birthday child get's their age of course) and their name written smaller below it. My daughter and I had also made a torch ahead of time using a cone,
foil and steamers for the flame. We had purchased little flags ahead of time which we gave to each child as they arrived. When everyone was there we had a little 'opening ceremonies parade
around the cul-de-sac and to the back yard where the games commenced! We played ring toss, shoe scramble, dress-up relay, etc. I had purchased little medals from Discovery Toys that I gave to
the winner of each game. (Those could also be easily made with foil & ribbon). For the cake I just made a sheet cake with white frosting and the olympic rings drawn out of frosting on the
top. I had coolers of juice boxes and popsicles for refreshments between the games. I even made signs for myself, my husband and my dad that said 'official judge', 'official timer' and
'official watcher of Andrew' (my toddler son at the time). It was beautiful weather and everyone had a super time.
