My husband and I host something called "Little Olympics" each year for all the nieces and nephews.  They would be split up into two teams and compete in many different events like long jump, hurdles, swimming, volleyball, soccer and many other sporting events that could be pulled off at his parent's house on the lake (hence the sand for long jump and swimming competitions).    This past year, he added a twist to the "Survivor Olympics". We are Survivor fans (the show on CBS) and added this element to the games. The nieces and nephews were allowed to bring one set of clothing and a sleeping bag.  Tents were provided since this was an overnight thing. Again, they were split into two teams. They had many competitions that mimicked the Survivor show. The best ones were the following:  1)  Gross-food event: spin the wheel and get to eat asparagus, artichoke hearts, Brussels sprouts, lima beans, (YUCK!) We also stuck in oranges, apples and a candy bar for incentive. Whichever team eats the most gets the point. 2) Blind Leading the Blind event: one child on each team is the leader.  All other team members are blind-folded. The leader has to shout out directions to fill up buckets of water, move logs, collect items, etc. Whichever team collects the most stuff on the list gets the point.  3)  Scavenger Hunt: self-explanatory 4) Totem Pole:  all team members are to place one hand on the totem pole. If at any time they remove their hand, they are disqualified.  This event does take quite awhile, so tempting them with drinks and snacks helps convince them to "let go". This was also a big hit. Teams could also win FOOD prizes since they weren't allowed to bring any along. Watching them attempt to make a fire and cook rice was a blast! Finding more ideas for events can be found on the CBS website Survivor links. This was a big hit and the kids have begged us to do it again this year.  It would take a lot of work, but make an awesome birthday party!!
