For my son's 9th birthday we had The Birthday Olympics! As children arrived they sat down and decorated cone shape pieces of construction paper and a piece of tissue paper to be used as a
torch with flame. After everyone arrived and torches were made we went outside for our opening ceremony, we march around the backyard to the Olympic Theme Song for our torch run(basically it
was follow the leader). Then the birthday boy held the American flag and we listened to the star spangle banner to honor our country. Next we played various games(we divided up into 3 groups
to do relay races we did the bear walk, crab walk, running, walking with a cotton ball on a spoon without it falling off, three-legged race, etc.) We also did basketball shots, and a
bubblegum bubble blowing contest. After the games we awarded everyone a gold medal for participating in The Birthday Olympics. For our closing ceremony we sang Happy Birthday to the Birthday
boy, ate
ice cream and cake( 5 small round cakes on top of a sheet cake each outlined in the colors of the Olympic rings.)Finally we opened presents. Everyone had a great time and got to take home their torch they made as well as a gold medal.
