Both of our children have had "Olympic birthday parties," consisting of approximately 12 events (sprint, softball throw, basketball, swimming, relay, golf - closest to the pin,
soccer juggling, horseshoes, etc.) During the competition, we played patriotic music. At the "awards ceremony," the top three finishers in each event were awarded gold, silver
and/or bronze medals with a notation of the event(obtained from the local trophy store). Kids who did not place in any event received the most treasured "medal of friendship." We
then played the Star Spangled Banner as all of the contestants saluted the United State flag. Party favors were the medals,t-shirts with an Olympic theme and candy. I was surprised at how
seriously these kids took the competition! All in all, the kids had a blast but mom and dad were very tired in the end.
