My son's 11th birthday coincided with the last Olympics. To use this theme we hosted the Olympics in our home.  Invitations:  These sported the Olympic symbol and stated You are Invited to the Mason Olympics".  As each party goer arrived they hung out in my son's room until the Opening Ceremony.  They were then lined up and as they entered the main room they were given a team flag. The Olympic theme was played during the ceremony. The flags were made with small rods and crepe paper in Red White and Blue. The teams were participated in the GAMES.  Team Flags--Each team created a flag on flip chart paper that represented Victory. Flags were hung on the wall. T-Shirt Relay--Each team was given 10 oversized T-Shirts. Each team was halved.  Half the team was on one side of the area the other half on the other side. Each member had to run to the other half of the team and put all the shirts on. They would then run back to their starting point and take all of the shirt off (one by one).  Then a member from the opposite end would repeat. Each member repeats. Ballon Train--Team members stand in a line.  A balloon is placed between each player.  They have to hold the balloon in place between their belly and backs. The team is then given a course to walk through as a team holding the balloons in place. If the balloons drop they must start over.  A score board was maintained on Flip Chart Paper posted on a wall.  I found some metalic stars in Red White and Blue and strung them with ribbon. These served as the medals.  Each Team got their own color. The flags were re-hung in the order of 1st 2nd and 3rd place and pictures were taken. Participants were allowed to eat in the order of their team rankings.  CAKE: We made mini-cupcakes frosted them in the colors of the Olympic rings and arranged them on a cake board to look like the rings.  That was my son's favorite part!"
