For our son's 5th birthday, we decided to go to Magic Kingdom at Disney World. He is really into Peter Pan and pirates. So before we left, I bought a paper mache treasure chest at Michael's Craft Store. My dad spray painted it and I added jewels. We then filled it with treasure. Of course, we added a bag of "real" jewels bought at Disney a gold wrapped candy bar, and gold coins. He knew nothing about this. My bother and I took paper grocery sacks and cut and burned the edges to look authentic. I then draw a rough map of the park. On his birthday, we took our map and box with us to the park hidden in my backpack. My husband went into Tinkerbell's store in Fantasyland and talked with a clerk. Then he paged for us. When we got in there she made a big deal about Tinkerbell saying something about Hook and a map. My boys bought it hook, line, and sinker. Off we went to find Capt. Hook. My husband raced ahead, talked with Hook character, gave map to Hook. After waiting in line, Hook presented map to son. Hook and Smee really played this up. People all around were staring and admiring map. We followed the map to Tom Sawyer's Island and searched the island. My husband detained kids while I ran ahead into Injun Joe's Cave and hid treasure in a corner nook with a big X on top. I then went around corner to watch our treasure and wait. My husband led the kids in. It was real dark and you could barely see. Awesome. My son kicked the box before he found it. Oh, the excitement. We took the treasure box outside , found a place to relax, and let him plunder his goods. Of course, Peter Pan had left a note to share all treasure with those with you. Both of my boys still think Peter Pan really left it there for them!
