For my son's 5th birthday we hosted a Peter Pan party.
We made all of our invitations. We found a picture from of Peter sprinkling pixie dust onto the 3 chilren (Wendy, John and Michael) and xeroxed it onto nicer paper. We included on each invite a bag of "pixie dust" (gold glitter) with the incription "Sprinkle the pixie dust and think happy thoughts as you fly to Neverland for (child's name) birthday party." We of course included directions to Neverland -- "Second star to the right and straight on til morning." Our games included a cake walk. Again I printed pictures of the different characters off of the computer, glued them to poster board to make them more sturdy, then used clear mailing tape to somewhat laminate the pictures. The music for the game was "We can fly" from the movie. As each child landed on the chosen character they chose a prize. We then decorated treasure maps as the children listened to the story of Peter Pan that I had on tape. Prior to the party I bought brown mailing paper, wet it, tore the edges to make it look old, then crinkled it and let it dry. I saved old water bottles so the kids to could roll up their map and put it in a bottle. For our next game I made a treasure chest -- wrapped an old box with attached lid in black constuction paper and printed off a cross and skull form the computer. In the chest were gold cups and pearls from the dollar store. I also included play money -- some with pictures of peter on them the others with Captain Hook. I let the children pick a dollar out of the chest and they chose a prize from the Peter bag or the Hook bag. I just decorated 2 bags with pictures on them on the bag. We ate cake decorated at a local bakery with Peter Pan on it, had a pinata, and the kids were on their way home from Neverland.
