Pirate Theme For my son's 5th birthday party we had a pirate party. I collected enough paper towel rolls so we had one for each child and covered them before hand with construction paper. Then
I set out markers, glue, glitter and beads for them to decorate them with and they made their own telescopes. For games we hid beaded necklaces, large gawdy rings and gold coins in a sandbox
and had the children dig for buried treasure. If you do not have a sandbox use a large tarp and cover that with sand instead. Make sure each parent has a bag to hold all the treasure their
kids find. Next I took small boats and put numbers on half of them (you may only want to do one) and let them float in one of those clear storage tubs and each kid picked one out. Whoever got
one that was marked won a prize - something pirate related of course plus they all got to keep the boat they picked. For dessert I made buried treasure cupcakes, which are normal cupcakes
that you place a gummie or other candy in. Covered with icing I died tan to look like sand (you can also use brown sugar) and marked with an 'X' using black icing. The other cake was shaped
like a flag and covered with black icing and a white skull and crossbones. Party colors I did in black, white and red which were used for balloons, streamers, paper products and plasticware.
If you plan far enough in advance you can pick up a pirate Halloween costume after the holiday for really cheap which he can wear to the party. And for bag fillers I put in eyepatches, more
treasure (because some aren't as fast as others), gold coin chocolate, a small plastic pirate and other candy.
