For my nephews' first birthday my sister decided on a pirate theme. Since my sister is currently living out of the country it was up to me to plan everything but I wasn't alone my cousins,
aunts, uncles, my mom and friends all offered to help. As it turned out I couldn't find any pirate party supplies in LA I decided to look online. All the decoration colors were black red and
white, I got felt pirate hats from ebay (sold by the lot)invitations, cake plates, napkins, table cover, mylar balloons from partyetc.com I found these really great black jolly roger latex
and mylar balloons from deadmentellnotales.com along with pirate tattoos, lootbags, and stickers. I got black plates, red plates, pirate gift bags, black forks, red forks, a pirate candle and
a small parrot pinata from party city. we got pirate swords, beaded jewelry, compasses, gem rings, laser notepads, skull pencils and happy birthday pirate banner from orientaltrading.com. We
found a pirate pinata in dwontown LA which was nearly impossible to find then my godmother offered to make a pinata too the one she made was the best it was almost a shame to break it, it was
really lovely. Along with the invitations I made driving directions in the form of a treasure map ARRRGGG take the so and so freeway jump ship on _____ Ave X marks ye port at address I tied
the map with hemp twine I added gold confetti to the invitation on the envelope for the return address I made labels Captain_________ with the address. My sister was able to take a leave to
be here for her child's party This was on outdoor party the weather wasn't aggreeing with anyone that day it was really windy we did the best, For the cake and gift table I used the pirate
table cover and I wanted to put the parrot pinata on it but because of the wind I didn't for the rest of tables we put black, red and white table covers. I used the pirate gift bags from
party city for table decorations we wrapped small pebbles with gold tissue paper put them in the gift bag I tied balloons to it and put one gift bag on each table this didn't last long
because of the wind so we just placed them on the floor. As each child arrived I handed them a pirate hat. I hired a face painter from www.creativefaces.com so the kids enjoyed the face
painting. My friend dressed up as a pirate to help entertain the kids he did a great job he stayed in character the whole time. We put the pirate costume together from a leather vest and a
white dressy shirt we found both items at the goodwill he took some old black pants he had and cut the bottom ala fred flinstone. He played pass the captains' hat with the kids using a pirate
hat (exactly like musical chairs once the music stops who ever is holding the hat is out) as each child lost he would hand them a pirate sword. I had rented a snow cone machine so the kids
enjoyed their snow cones before taking turns hitting the pinata, they broke both pinatas we still had bags of left over pinata candy that didn't fit in the pinatas so my cousin decided to
just throw the candy in the air the kids had a blast getting candy. My neighbor also entertained the kids by making balloon animals for them. In the lootbags I put gold coin chocolate candy,
coin bubble gum, ring pops, pirate tattoos, eye patches, skull pencil, compasses, laser notepads( I had put a jolly roger sticker on each laser pad) for the girl lootbags I also included
candy bracelets and jewelry. Because my nephew is one alot of the kids were either under one or had just turned one so for the babies I found these vinyl bathtub pirate ships that was
handed out to the babies instead of giving them pirate swords. The cake was made by a friend of mine's father it was a treasure island theme. I was fortunate to find this great set of
lego treasure island pirates on ebay it included monkeys, 4 pirates, a shark, parrots, I also put some playmobile treasure chest instead of the lego one the playmobile also included a cave all of it was used for the cake decoration. The icing used for the water was clear blue so it gave it a very beautiful look the sand for the island was brown sugar some kids thought it was actual sand. The pirate party was a big hit the parents loved it alot of them would tell me that they had never seen a pirate party. My friend as a pirate was also a big hit a few guests thought he was an actor I had hired. Everyone pitched in and helped and we made my nephew's first birthday very memorable. My sister was eternally grateful.
