Pirate movie night. For my son Sam's 7th birthday, we wanted something fun that we could do at our house. He wanted to have friends over(we settled for an evening party, not a sleepover).Since he liked pirates, we decided on the age appropriate Treasure Planet movie-Disney. For invitations I used some light tan cardstock, and on computer, printed out 'Ahoy there, Mateys. Ye be invited to a pirate movie night fer Cap'n Sam's 7th birthday.Date, time5:30 to 8:30 Chart yer course for (address). Come if ye dare, arrhh! Rsvp:(phone number).' I then ripped the edges off around the invitation, and using silver marker on black cardstock, drew skull and bones and cut out flags, using brown cardstock for the flag poles and glued them to the invitations. I then used yellow cardstock, and via computer, typed out"VIP ticket to see Treasure Planet" and cut them in the shape of movie tickets and stuck them inside the envelopes with the invitations. My son invited 10, but with it being the start of summer, only about 6 came. This was a good number of children. Before the party, I ordered pirate cups, loot bags, pirate tatoos, telescopes, pirate arm bracelets(the boys even liked them), golden gum coins, movie night popcorn packages from Oriental trading. I purchased black and red bandanas, plain tan gift bags, beads, boxed candies, candy necklaces  and play money at other stores as well. I borrowed a stampin up pirate stamp set from a friend, and stamped the plain bags for gift bags for the kids.I also got some popcorn holders(red and white) from a popcorn stand at a grocery store. The day of the party, I bought red and black balloons, made cupcakes using golden cupcake papercups-wilton.Wanted to use toothpicks and make little black flags for them but ran out of time.Purchased red and black balloons, and placed in the family room, rented the movie a few days prior.  We wanted to do some fun games before the movie, so I took yarn(6 strands), and wrote each kids name on a little piece of paper and taped to one end of the yarn, I wound it up in my son's room and the other end of the yarn held the black or red bandana. I had decided which kids to group together for a treasure hunt. When the kids arrived, they went to his door and everyone found their name and followed their yarn to find out which team they were on.We all met in the family room. From there, the kids all put their bandanas on their heads and took pictures. Then we split up ,my husband did the black and I the red. We went over basic safety rules(no running, etc.) and the adults read the clues out loud. I had typed up clues leading to a treasure chest, and sprinkled them around the house when myson wasn't looking.Using pirate terminology I wrote clues that lead to our microwave, inside of my daughters play cottage, on the mantel, in my daughter's room, under her comforter, and lastly under my son's bed"underneath where the cap'n slumbers." I took an old box, put a big red x on it, and wrote congrats, you've found the hidden treasure. The red team found it first, but all the kids were happy. Inside the box, I placed each of the kids pirate loot bags with their labeled goodies(tattos, telescopes, etc. and $7.00 (5 and two 1s)play money in their bags. Sprinkled all around the bags were the golden coins, beads, and yellow crinkled paper confetti. We then had them go to the family room while my husband and I set up our kitchen. We lined the candy boxes on our island like at the movies. Then I popped popcorn and filled the popcorn boxed half way and placed them next to the candy, then different soda cans and lined up the pirate cups as well. Ihad printed out little placecards and placed them in front of each section"Candy 1.50,Soda 1.00, popcorn 3.75'We had the kids line up in the hall and one by one they came to the "counter" to buy their snacks.$7.00 was just enough for one of each and then they took their seat in the familyroom. My husband was the cashier and I the snack bar person. It was really funny, we even gave our nephews a family discount! Then the movie started and we told them they had only free  refills on soda and popcorn once. The movie finished and they had cupcakes and present. Then just played pirate hiden seek until their parents came to pick them up. By that time, I placed each kids cup, bandana, loot bag into the tan gift bags. One parent said her daughter told her it was the best time she'd ever had. Lots of these ideas were taken from this website, what a wonderful resource, Thanks!
