Pirate Party For my son's 3rd birthday we had a pirate party. My main concern since my son has a lot of energy for the party not to be too rough. Also due to April we were forced to have it
inside. I can honestly say the kids really had a great time. There were about 13 kids between 3 & 4 years old. I bought scroll paper for invitations typed:Ahoy Matyes! Captain
Danny is turning 3! Please join us for a Pirate Birthday Party! Captain Dan needs shipmates to walk the plank and hunt for the long lost treasure. A sailor's lunch and a pirate cake
will also be there for your pleasure! We will set sail on _____ and the ship is docked at ___. I wraped the invitations up in red ribbon put them in round container and
mailed. You could put sand in w/ seashells but I opted not to. TO set the scene I covered my front door in black wrapping paper and printed out a skull and cross bones from the
computer.
Along the walkway of my house were small pirate flags made out of fabric that I stenciled "Captain Dan's" "Ahoy Matey". I also made each child a black vest(Rag shop) and sew on a parrot on the front. I also stenciled Captain Dan & other children's names to the front of their vests. Each child also wore a red bandana(Oriental Trading) This they got upon arrival. As you walked down the stairs to where the party was I had fish nets with plastic fish in them, these were also on the walls of the basement. I had found a huge box and had spray painted it black, cut out portholes and made a mast out of cardboard from a carpet store(carpet is placed around roll) I stenciled Black Pearl on ship and also cut out on the side a small crawl space for the kids to enter.I also had Wiggles Captain Feathersworth music playing. The first craft was making a spyglass I used paper towel tubes, painted them black and had kids place stickers on them. Kids also had tattoos placed on their arms.(parrots, flamingos) They then played walk the plank. I used a small pool which was sturdy enough to have a board over it, we also put plastic alligators in the water. The kids really loved this but the water can be a bit messy if you leave unattended. As each child crossed they got a beaded necklace(Oriental Trading) Next the kids played sleigh the alligator. I had drawn alligators on papertowel and had kids slide down the slide using a plastic sword to rip apart alligator. Each child did this 2x's and got a jeweled ring. Kids also played grab the necklace and used a hook hand to get them out of a big pot(left over from St. Patrick's Day-pot of gold). They also painted and decorated a treasure box(Oriental trading)(Hint use Q-Tips and glue to place jewels on also put names on bottom), I put a vinyl table cloth on for the kids to decorate. They also played pin the flag on the pirateship, using a bandanna and a small flag with double sided tape. While the kids were eating their pirate food(pizza and chicken nuggets) I started to hide the clues, since they were 3 I only did picture clues.I use pictures of items that were around my house(refridgerator, lamp, toy airplane). ALl the kids really loved this- they came back downstairs after 4 clues to find the treasure chest(Bombay Co.)filled with goody bags which included fish squirts, treasure chest piggy bank(M&M co)and other small pirate toys. We also did the pinata' a string treasure chest,so each child pulled the string. Next I had the kids play in the pirate ship while I brought down the pirate ship cake(family fun website) A lot of planning went into the party but we all had a great time!
