My son wanted a treasure hunt pirate party for his 5th birthday party.
I took tan colored paper and printed this poem: Ahoy Matey! Captain (childs name) is turning 5. He needs a hearty crew to help him hunt for a prize. Come if you dare; but please beware, there will be lots of swashbuckling fun and yo ho ho games to be won. You can walk the plank to shark tooth island, jump and hop in cannon ball pop and hunt for hidden treasure. I tore the edges and then chalked the edges to make it look worn. I rolled them up and tied them with a piece of hemp. I but them in empty water bottles and added sea life beads so the children could make a braclet. Even the ones who could not come commented on what a great invitation. I bought a white twin sheet at walmart and tore it in half on one side I wrote AARRG Have no Fear and on the other one Capt'n (childs name) party is here! we hung these from the front porch. We took our utility wagon and but it on a blue tarp to look like water and tore open brown yard bags and taped them around the wagon to form a ship. We used an old broom stick for the mast and stapled two full sheets of poster board to the stick to form the sails. On the side I wrote S.S. (childs name). This is where i had the children leave there presents. The backyard was decorated with fish and parots from us toy company. When the kids arrived we had green plastic tablecloths covering the floor and they each sat down with a wooden box (got on clearance at craft store) that I had painted gold. Inside the box were jewels and glitter pens to decorate with. We outfitted them with glitter tulle sashes and bandanas. Our first game was cannnon ball pop. Black balloons with eye patches inside they were instructed to sit on the balloons to get their prize. Next we played tickle me timbers, hid and seek. I bought a feather sword on clearence (you could use a feather duster) and when the children were found they each got a feather to go tickle someone else. Next we played feed the whale. I bought a plastic whale pool also on clearance put plastic croccodiles inside. The kids had to feed the whale balled up newspaper then jump inside and dig out a croc. Next we played walk the plank to shark tooth island. We made a plank to our hard plastic pool where they jumped in and dug out shark tooth necklases. This pool had a built in slide they we put a blow up shark on. we also had a styrofoam ice chest painted gold with 144 snakes inside they used a capt'n hook to fish out the snakes. They came in to eat corny dog swords (black circles cut out of paper and pushed on the stick) and orange slice boats ( quarter oranges use a pretzel stick and square piece of paper) and treasure chest cake(family fun). After cake was the treasure hunt I had 4 clues leading to the pinata treasure chest. I covered it with a blue tarp and put helium balloons under the tarp so they flew up when opened. Inside the pinata was candy ,200 pennys and some rings. I put colored rocks and fish stamps in the boxes they decorated. Everyone had a great time my son said the whole party was his favorite part.
