For my son's 1st Birthday we had a Pirate Birthday party in our backyard. For the invitations, I purchased from Office Depot specialty paper that looked like an old scroll. The invitations read "Ahoy Matey! Come Join Our Pirate Crew Were Celebrating Captn (childs name) 1st Birthday We set sail on May 18th at 1 p.m. Captn (childs name) ship the Adentvure Galley is docked at (address)RSVP: Shipmates (parents name) at (phone)Special Instructions: Weve got a costume waiting for all the kiddies.  Hope ya can join us for a swashbuckling fun time! Aarrgghh!" As stated in the invitations we had simple customes for every child. I made red bandana's and black loot bags out of cotton fabric. I stuffed the loot bags with eye patches, temp tattoos, an inflatable parrot and gold chocolate coins. For the decorations I purchase plastic pirate flags and with my husbands staple gun I placed a flag with black, red and gold ballons all along the fence every 3 feet. At the entrance to the backyard we placed a wooden sign the said "Enter at your own risk" with cross bones and a skull. At the center of each table we had a plastic cannon with three cannon balls. Coming out of the cannons I placed silver and gold shredding. Since the kids age range were from under one year to 12 years. I rented a Astro jump with a jungle theme. The kids played in it for hours. My husband transform my sons kiddy pool into a walk the plack activity. Instead of water we used small balls. We had two pinatas. One for the big kids and one for the little ones. For the cake I went to a local bakery and ordered a pirate cake. They supplied the pirates, the ship, the treasure chest and palm trees. The cake looked like an island. It was very bright and got a lot of praise from the children. For the food I prepared four large platters with fresh tropical fruit ie. strawberries, pineapple, papaya, watermelon and cantalope. Instead of soda I purchased two 5 gallon water jugs and my husband cut the top off leaving a six or seven inch hole at the top. In one jugs I made tropical punch with punch mix, pineapple ring (with juice)and orange slices and juice. In the other I made lemonaide and added lemon and lime slices. The kids absolutely loved it. My husband made bugers and hotdogs and we brought small bags of variety potateo chips. Everyone had a fun time including the adults. Many can't wait until his second birthday party!
