My son loves pirates and wanted to have a pirate party for his 6th birthday. It ended up being the best party ever!
Invitations: I got some brownish, old looking paper from Office Depot and printed the invitations in a great font that looked like writing on an old treasure map. "Pirate's Plunder! Aye! Yer mate, Jakob is turning 6 . Stop yer pillaging & come to a party! (Date & time) At the (last name) ship. Yo, ho, ho! Blue beard will be doin a majic show and ye be lootin for treasure, ye robbers of the sea! RSVP (Argh! If ya don't you'll be walkin the plank!) I also printed an old looking ship onto the invitation, then I took a lighter and burnt the edges of the paper all the way around. The return address was "Captain Jake" and on the back of the envelope: "Open this now, ye yellow bellied land lovers!" Decorations: My husband turned the deck into a ship. He made two "masts" out of some 2X4's and large cloth paint tarps. I took fish net and placed it all around the railings of the deck. I also decorated with shells. The table cloths were made from cheap black and white checked fabric with fish net and big shells as centerpieces. I also found some fake parrots. Games: We did pin the X on the treasure map and had a treasure pinata. I had already labeled large bags for each child with (example: Jakob's loot) I hired a magician to come and do magic tricks, but got him to dress like a pirate instead of a magician. The kids loved the show, but they were full of energy after sitting for awhile, so we went on to the treasure hunt. Now this was fun! I had hidden a treasure box out in the woods on our property near a big tree. I made a treasure map on a paper sack then crinkled it up until it looked old and worn. At each stop on the map there was a gold coin so they would know they were going in the right direction. My teenaged nephew dressed as a pirate and helped them do the scavenger hunt. When they finally found the treasure it was filled with fancy jewels, gold coins, eye patches, and paper money (all gotten from US toy and carnival supply) The kids all stuffed the loot into their loot bags, they all LOVED this. I made cupcakes and let the kids decorate them, having all kinds of frosting colors and decorations for them. Before they left I gave each child their loot bag and a plastic sword (found online) - and they all wore their eye patches out. This was a GREAT party! The kids all loved this
