My turning 6 year olds Pirate Party We started off by sending scroll invitations inviting all mateys and landlubbers to attend the party...enclosed was a note encouraging the children to
dress up as pirates. (A simple striped t-shirt and cut offs with ragged edges would do! and a bandana for the head) ...All of the kids came in various costume, really adding to the spirit and
great for the photos! The party was held at a local park...to add to the atmosphere we brought a cute pirate boat shaped pool we found at Target for the kids to play pirate in (no water
needed) We played taped music from Peter Pan.
The kids loved Yo Ho Yo Ho a pirates life for me! As the children arrived, they were required to "walk the plank" (A simple board on top of 2 cement blocks) upon completion, they were awarded a pirate hat and eyepatch (from birthday express) as well as a "telescope" (these were paper towel rolls we sprayed black, then masked and about an inch of the bottom sprayed gold)and a "treasure map" After everyone had arrived all were given small sacks and sent to dig for the buried treasure. (the treasure consisted of rocks spray painted gold, some shells, marbles, plastic gems and some gold plastic coins) Even at age 6, the kids were very excited to find the treasure, much to my surprise they even returned and sat at a table to sort through it all. Then, a simple lunch was served. Hot dogs, fish crackers served in a plastic pail and a fruit plate... (After lunch we were joined by a wonderful pirate who did a magic show with his trained parrots.)The pirate visitor is optional, and certainly not necessary!) The children had plenty of fun just being pirates and playing with their friends! The goodie bags where hidden in a treasure chest which the kids were given clues to hunt for... (we used the favors from birthday express- pirate theme for boys and jewelry theme for the girls) Next was cake time... The cake was decorated like an island with water surrounding it and had some plastic pirate figures and palm trees on the island...Last, a parrot pinata, filled with "the jewels"...(gem pop rings and candy necklaces.) (although, some of the candy did break, so I recommend maybe handing those out separate and putting something else in your pinata Ü. The thank you cards we sent out were hand stamped with a treasure chest and the message we put inside was "Friends are the Best Treasure!" We enclosed a group photo of all the kids in their costumes... Everyone seemed to enjoy the pirate party and it sure was a fun theme to plan around... There is so much you can do!
