For my son's 8th Birthday party he wanted to have a "Little Shop of Horrors" party! We had just seen the play and the movie and he was hooked. We invited his whole 2nd grade class, turned our bonus room into a theatre and hired one of the doo-wop singers from the (local) play to come and sing along. My son gave the classmates a heads up on who he wanted to portray who prior to the party.  On arrival, the cast members were briefed as to what to say, where to stand and when to come on "stage". Several scenes were done w/o them having to say anything, which helped. The doo-wop singer had the sound track from the play which flowed nicely. The stage had the flower shop "propped out" complete with the cash register, flowers everywhere, a store window (made out of a big empty picture frame), open/closed sign on a close by door, etc. We also had the dentist's office propped with a black desk chair, my college diploma (I taped a piece of paper on it that said "School of Dentistry Orin Scrivello DDS"), a gas mask and a battery operated nail filer for the dentist drill. For the large Audrey II (the killer venus fly trap) I used a dilapitated paper mache cave the kids once had to read in...painted it the same colors as the plant complete with red tongue inside. It worked similar to a pac-man motion! The rest of the guests were the audience. We had the appropiate clothes and wigs and glasses for all. They all really enjoyed it. A couple of the guys really enjoyed getting "eaten" by the plant...they said it was cozy.  The doo-wop girl stood outside the curtain with a couple of 2nd graders and did the songs when appropriate. I started and ended the play with the video (movie) to give the audience a sence of what was going on.\*\* The music teacher at school is the one to thank for introducing our son to this "cultural experience".\*\* After they rehearsed we went down to open presents and get a snack then it was upstairs for the play. Afterwards, we went back downstairs for cake. The party gift was their own venus fly trap plant! A good time was had by all. I hope that when they mature they will always remember acting out such a fun play!
