My turning 10 year old daughter and I began our search for a party theme in the Oriental Trading Company catalog. We found a director's clapboard for less than $3 and this inspired the idea for a "Movie Party". We made invitations that looked like tickets.  They said "Now staring in her 10th Birthday Party....AMY...etc.! We had a red carpet to walk up to the front door (just a long red fabric scrap)and decorated the house with gold stars and purple and gold streamers and baloons...purple being her favorite color. We had signs on the bathroom doors that said with a silouete figure of a girl...like on public restrooms.  Each guest was given a program, a name tag with their own name and another tag with a movie characotr's name to put on their back. They had to ask yes and no questions to guess their movie charactor. After all had arrived...we did two crafts...one a "Walk of Fame Star" craft with black poster board squares and big gold stars with their names on them to decorate with glitter glue and gold star stickers.  Also a glamours, foam, hand shaped jewelry holder craft from Oriental Trading Company.  After crafts we had pizza and explained the main activity. The 15 girls were divieded into three groups and each given a room with a bag of costumes, a CD player and music and a list of skit ideas...(ie: Snow White wakes up in a modern day mall!)  Each group had 20 mins. to come up with a skit, or a music video or whatever they wanted to do!We told them anyone that did not want to act could be a direcotr or a prop person...all...even the shiest of her friends acted and did a great job!! We then filmed them seperatly and later showed them on a movie screen for all to see. My daugter acted as director and helped each group! They had a blast with this and came up with some great ideas!! We then let them make their own sundaes, since my daughter doesn't like cake! This was another huge hit...we had tons of toppings and even choc. whipped cream! We had my daughter sit in a directors chair to open gitfts. Last we served popcorn in movie popcorn boxes and drinks with lids and straws, and showed a movie on the big screen! We had the movie the kids made showing on a TV in another room as the parents came to get their kids so they could see it too! For goody bags we filled popcorn boxes with purple tissue paper, a bag of microwave popcorn, a toe ring, rhinestone ring and bracelet set, (to put on their jewery holder), a ring pop candy and after tying up with celophane we put a small directors clapbaord photo keychain on the outside with a thank you note from my daughter in the photo spot!  (All this stuff also from Oriental Trading Company) This was the first at home party I had ever done and it was such a huge hit...and so easy after all the planning....that I am now doing a "Pink Poodle Party" for my five year old in Oct....stay tuned!!!
