My son LOVES Pokemon so for his 5th birthday we had a Pokemon party.
The invitations were bought from our party store but I included one pokemon card in each invite to make it more special. The party was in our yard. Before the kids got there I had hid index cards all around the yard for them to "catch a Pokemon". (I made 4 index cards <like the Pokedex> with the same picture of each Pokemon on all 4 cards.) Pictures were off the internet. I hid 3 of them & gave the 4th to each child & asked them to "catch that Pokemon". Each child had their own Pokemon to find. They really liked this & wanted to keep the cards to take home (which they did). They also played "Pokemon bingo" which I also got from the internet. I had to get poker chips for the bingo since we had 15 kids. They loved this & I learned all the Pokemon names real fast! Decorations were simple. I printed 8X10 pictures of different Pokemon & put them up on the fence in our yard. Lots of red, blue, & yellow balloons & of course Pokemon tablecloths, napkins, & plates. We had a pinata which my older daughter & I worked on together. We had tried to find a Pikachu pinata to no avail so we found a Winnie the Pooh one & made it into Pikachu. We took bright yellow crepe paper & cover the pinata so it was the exact color of Pikachu. We just added the simple face pattern (2 black circles, 2 red circles, & the little smile). We also added a zig-zagged tail out of cardboard to Pikachu's back. Everyone including the grownups were impressed by the pinata which made my daughter very proud. We had a BBQ for dinner but the dessert was all Pokemon. We made a large round cake & frosted 1/2 red & the other 1/2 white with a black circle & line in the middle to make our Pokeball. Then we had cupcakes around it that looked like Pokemon. Chickorita was frosted in green with green M&M's on her neck for her necklace, & strips of colored air heads for the leaf & eyes. Marill was blue frosting on the top half & white on the bottom, M&M eyes & chocolate sprinkles for the mouth. Electrode was the easiest, just white & red frosting with 1/2 M&M's cut for the eyes (so he'd look mean). Pikachu was frosted in yellow & we used candy corns for the ears, M&M eyes, & cheeks. Goody bags were filled with Pokemon cards, a Pikachu light up keychain I found in the $1 store, & of course candies. The party was 4 months ago & everyone is still complimenting us on it. It was fun.
