My son wanted a Pokemon party for his 6th birthday. He learned a lot about Pokemon from his older cousins so not many of his friend know much about Pokemon. So we had a
"Pokemon Master Training Camp" party.
I wrote a manual for the party that explained what a Pokemon was and the different types, how they evolve, how you catch a Pokemon, how to read the cards and how trainers battle Pokemon. It also included information on Pokemon Centers, Ash, Misty, Brock, Nurse Joy, Professor Oak and his Pokedex and Team Rocket. This was all in a pocket folder and at the end of the manual were a lsit of the 250 Pokemon and their types, some Pokemon coloring sheets and games I had found on the Internet. After we finished discussing the Pokemon Master Training manual, every child got to pick a Pokemon figurine for his/her 1st Pokemon. Then it was time for the games. We played Team Rocket Hide & Seek with a Pikachu. During the training camp, a member of Team Rocket would come and steal a Pikachu figure and place it somewhere in plain view. The first child to find it won a prize. Then Team Rocket would come and steal Pikachu again and move him to a new place. The second game was like "pin the tail on the donkey" only I drew a Pokeball on a piece of posterboard. Each chil was given a Pokemon sticker. The one who got closest to the Pokeball latch won a Pokeball keychain with a Pokemon inside. Next we moved outdoors where we had placed color cut-outs of Pokemon that we found on the Internet (Pokemon clip-art) in the grass, in trees & bushes, on our swingset, etc. We played "Gotta Catch 'Em All". On the count of three all the kids ran into the yard and picked up as many Pokemon as they could find. The one with the most Pokemon won a prize. Finally, we played Pokemon battles. I had my son make four Pokemon Gyms each on a piece of white paper. These were placed on differnt tables around the house. Each child got a card with four Pokemon badges and had to go and battle with the Pokemon figures they had received to win four more badges. At each gym, they rolled a dice against the Pokemon Gym Leader (an adult) and if you won 2 out of 3 rolls, you got a prize and a badge. The child would then move to the next gym and battle again. If you lost a battle, the child would go to each gym and then go back to the one they lost at until they won all four badges. The kids loved the battles and the Team Rocket games the best. They also enjoyed finding the Pokemon in the backyard. For prizes, I bought a lot of toys / action figures / Pokemon keychains / Pokeballs / Pokemon cards on ebay. I found Pokemon trivia books, coloring-sticker books, straws in stores. For the treat bags, I gave each child cards, candy, Pokemon stickers and magnets we had made. This really was a fun party!
