Pokemon Party 7yr

We just had a Pokemon Party yesterday, using many ideas found on this website and adding a few twists. This idea is best for a small group of kids - probably up to about 8, and works best in your own home.  We made Pokeball invitations (see most other submissions) and decorated the room with Drifloon (purple balloons with yellow duct tape X mouths, black electrical tape eyes, a puff of cotton glued on the top and construction paper hearts on strings) and had CD crafts (see www.dltk-kids.com) set up for the kids to make on arrival. Then they played Pokemon Bingo (also at www.dltk-kids.com) while I cleared the craft table and served lunch.  After lunch, the main event began.  While a bit labor intensive prior to the party, it proved an engaging activity which lasted nearly an hour.  I called it a Pokemon Quest". Prior to the party I made a Pikachu Pinata (www.makingfriends.com/pikachupinata.htm) and used Wikipedia to download images of all of the Sinnoh region badges. I then made a sheet with all of the badges for all of the kids (one of each for every child) and had a color copy made on adhesive paper to create stickers.  I cut them out and divided them between envelopes.  I then created a series of "challenges" - the first led them to an envelope containing the first badge and another "challenge". I used locations all around the house and yard (couch hammock tree lego box piano mailbox etc. The challenges varied - riddles maps to follow word scramble (Scrambled the names of seven different pokemon. The unscrambled words were written on a line.  One letter was circled on each line.  The circled letters read top to bottom spelled out the location - MAILBOX.) addition problems (a series of addition problems were given with each answer equal to a letter.  The letters were inserted above a series of lines with the numbers below to spell the next location.)and one using the names of each of the "trainers". Each "trainer" was given a piece of cardboard strung on a string large enough to hold one of each of the eight badges.  They were then given the first clue and sent off. When they had all 8 badges the final clue told them to take all the papers with clues and turn them over.  On the back I had printed a picture (very lightly) of the famly car (I did this when I printed the clues before I cut them up).  In the back seat of the car I had put the pinata covered in a blanket.  They were thrilled with the excitement and the achievement. After breaking open the pinata we had cake (just a round cake frosted to look like a pokeball with an oreo in the center) with a couple of figurines on the edges. The party ended up lasting three full hours. If you are not doing lunch you can cut out the Bingo and go right fromt he crafts to the Quest to shorten the event.  My son had a wonderful time and all his friends took home the CD craft badge cardboard and candy from the Pinata as "goody bags".  "
