Pokemon Party

September, 1999

I searched for ideas for my 9 year old son's Pokemon party.  There are not a lot of ideas out there, believe me-I looked! Here is what I came up with...We had a sleepover (6 children).  I made a Pokeball piņata ,I had to tape the balloon with masking tape to make it round and decorated it by sticking lots (and lots!) of red, black and white tissue paper on it.  Pin the tail on the Pikachu. I drew Pikachu on poster board and made tails with the kids names on them with yellow construction paper. At first they thought this was a "baby game" until they were blindfolded and spun in a circle about 20 times. They were all laughing at each other.  Name the Pokemon- the kids wore a nametag on their back with the name of a pokemon on it, they didn't know what it was, but everyone else did.  They could ask 5 questions to try and figure out which Pokemon they were. Musical chairs using the Pokemon soundtrack for the music. This was a big hit because whoever won got to keep the tape as! the prize.  5 minute game- they separated into 2 groups and wrote down all of the Pokemon they could think of in 5 minutes.  Who ever had the most won a prize. Poke Bunko-nothing really to do with Pokemon, but they took turns rolling for 6's and whoever got the most after 5 rounds won a small prize. If they rolled any 1's, they wiped out their score and had to start over, they really go into this game. The Poke-BDay-Boy test-  I asked them 10 questions about my son and Pokemon, (which is his favorite, if he could have any card-which would it be, what is his favorite Pokemon video, how many holographics does he have, etc). Whoever got the most won a small prize.  The prizes I used were the small packages of Pokemon cards, pencils, tiny spiral notebooks, key chains, and candy.  I made a Pokeball using the cake pan from his soccer themed party from last year.  They sell Wilton "ball" cake pans at the hobby stores and I tried to decorate it like a Pokeball. Tattoos were a big hit, I got them in the activity books they sell.  Around 11 they were all exhausted from the games, card trading and watched a Pokemon video. If you knew me, you would know that I am NOT a creative person, but I learned for this party! They all had a good time!!! (including me  : ))!
