Horse Party 7yr

April 2010

For my daughter's 7th birthday, it was a no--brainer it would be a horse theme. She is horse crazy. INVITATION:  We sent an invitation featuring her sitting on her enormous stuffed horse she can ride sporting her cowgirl hat that said Look who's turning 7!  Yee-haw!.   DECORATIONS: We hung red, white and blue streamers around our backyard and balloons from the playhouse. I made a banner from brown craft paper spelling out happy birthday and used cut outs of horses from a calendar to decorate.  We bought a horse mylar balloon and red and blue star balloons for when the girls came in the front. We decorated the three tables with blue and white plaid tablecloths with red cherries all over.    ACTIVITIES: I found a Breyer horse mold on clearance and poured plaster and made each girl their own plaster horse to paint.  A huge hit. As they arrived, I handed out smocks and each girl went to find their spot at three little people tables we had set up in the back yard and they painted their horses as all the girls arrived. I made shrinky dink horses ahead of time and a shrinky dink of each girls name and the girls made bracelets with these and some beads. I also had foam horse theme stickers to put on foam book marks the girls could work on too.   GAMES:   I made a horse pinata and filled with horse themed items and candy. THe girls stamped with a horse stamp set on brown paper bags to decorate their bags for collecting goodies from the pinata.   That was lots of fun. The girls had a relay race to transport sugar cubes to fill their bucket while riding a stick horse. I made a beanbag toss out of an old cardboard box and covered with pictures of horses from a calendar and made beanbags from some leftover horse fabric I had.    PARTY SNACKS:  I had lots of horse themed things to eat.  I served a mix of animal crackers, teddy grahams, pretzels, bugles, and themed colored m and m's in tiny little pails I found at the dollar store. I put potato sticks in cup cake liners as hay and put a nutter butter on top that I had piped melted chocolate on to look like a horse and added a twizzler lasso.  We had small pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate and dipped in sprinkles of the theme colors (red, white, and blue). I put popcorn in red paper cups. The food was all served on galvanized and red, white, and blue trays I had. Pretzel rods and fruit were served in galvanized pails and some black and white pails that looked like cows I found in dollar bins at target.   CAKE: The finale to the food was the cupcakes I made out of the Hello, Cupcake book using wafer cookies and circus peanuts to make 3-d horses and I made two round cakes frosted side by side in green and added a cake barn and silo I saw in Family Fun to the top and arranged the cupcake horses around. It all turned out very cute.  FAVORS:  I ordered some small bandana bags, stuffed horses, horse topped bubbles, horse tattoos and stickers from Oriental Trading company.  I added a pouch of My Little Pony fruit snacks and put all in the bandana bags and had all the bags in a red, white, and blue basket to get by the door when they left.   This was definitely a great party. Moms are still asking me about it.
