Horse party for 8 yr old: Invitations were made out of construction paper to resemble a barn door.
It opened to reveal a picture of a horse in it's stall inviting the recipient to the party with all the pertinent information. Upon arriving, each guest made her own mane using a headband, felt glued around it for ears and yarn tied in between for the mane. We then played a variation of bobbing for apples: apples were cored and strung to a horizontal pole. Each child was to get on all fours like a horse and try to bite the apple without using her hands. Then we played "pin the part on the pony"- a variation of "Pin the tail on the donkey", but it was a picture of a featureless horse. Each child was blindfolded and tried to pin on parts such as eyes, ears, tail, saddle, etc. Next was a game of dropping clothespins in a milkjug. The clothespins were decorated to look like horses and the milkjug was decorated to look like a barn. The last game we played was to stomp the "flies" that always seem to bother horses. We tied black balloons to everyone's ankles and each child ran around trying to pop each other's balloons. The cake was cut into the shape of a horse head and decorated as such with candy eyes, nose and piped icing to resemble reins and the mane. The girls had a great time!
