My daughter, Riona, is turning 3 this year! I've picked up many good ideas from submissions on this site (thank you!) and have a few of my own to contribute.
I am combining Riona's birthday with Halloween this year--hosting just a couple days before Halloween. We wanted to replace the ghosts and ghouls from Halloween with Pooh and friends and LOTS of Pumpkins!! We will be joined by 3 of her closest friends. I've made 4 tees to fit the cast of characters: Pooh (my daughter), Piglet (a 2y/o), Tigger (a 3y/o), and Eeyore (11 months old.) I found the images online, and printed them to transfer paper to iron the images on plain tees. Riona & i have made invites in the shape of candy corn with Pooh, Tig, and Piglet Halloween images stamped on them and included directions to "Rabbit's Garden" (a local pumpkin patch/corn maze.) These invites/shirts will be hand delivers in small shirt boxes, decorated with homemade Pooh paper, and the idea being that the children will wear their shirts the day of the party. That should make for a great, cuddly pic! On the big day, we will be encouraging the children to pick their pumpkins and we will be purchasing these for them to take back to our house to decorate (after conquering the corn maze!) I've purchased some inexpensive foam "pumpkin decorating" stickers from an online source for the children to use. I've also gathered craft paper to make trees (like Pooh's home) for decorations around our home and plan on lots of fake leaves scattered around and of course, balloons. I am still gathering ideas about food and cakes (altho i hear Fred Meyer's makes a mean Pirate Ship cake, i am leaning toward making my own pumpkin cake), however, for the favours, i've purchased Pooh puzzles (Pooh and Friends dressed up as pirates), a Halloween Pooh book, pooh band aids, glow sticks that coordinate with the colour of the Pooh friend (Tig=orange, Pig=pink; you get the idea--found these at Targets $1 bin!!!) I am making "trick or treat" bags in the shape of "Hunny" pots, with bees sewning on them to contain all these items. I am also constructing a "Winnie the Pooh" colouring book for the kids with images of Pooh et al. that i have found on the web. Oh, and of course, i've included a candle for their parents to place in their pumpkins on Halloween. The "thank yous" have also been planned--i've found pumpkin shaped foam frames that will house a pic of the cuddly toddlers together and have purchased a modest amount of scrapbooking supplies to scrapbook a page for the mothers of the children. The best part of the party planning is including my daughter. She is having such fun helping me--she's called my family everyday to tell them about the previous days "Events In Planning". Every morning we have "Role Call" and she tells me and Daddy who will be who in the "cast of characters" at her birthday party. It's soooo rewarding when you wait till the child is able to help make decisions for their party. I would say that all this work would only be for an older child's party! :o) Hope these ideas inspire even more ideas for you!
