Blustery Day Picnic at the house on Pooh Corner - Age 5 A bunch of years back, we had a great party for my son.
He loved Winnie the pooh and it just so happened that we lived on a corner so we called it the "blustery day picnic at the house on pooh corner" We made up invitations out of small wooden dowels and poster board. Tie the dowels with yarn or string into a cross shape and cut out a diamond shape from poster board to cover the dowels. Attach a 12" length of crepe paper with knots tied every few inches to the end of the kite. Mail in manila envelopes. We took the furniture out of our living room and put down table cloths on the floor. We bought white sheets at the local thrift shop and dyed them sky blue. The sheets were hung on the walls so we felt like we were outside. I worked for a car dealership and brought home the old advertising posters and cut them into large clouds. (back of posters were white). I also cut out life sized Pooh characters (kanga, roo, owl, etc) and an old tree with honey pots on a branch. We made kites out of dowels and crepe paper and hung them from the ceiling. We made "pooh hats" out of strips of posterboard that we stapled into a circle. We cut out small circles of posterboard and stapled them to the inside of the ring sticking out the top to look like ears. I served Tigger cake, made "Owl" out of a pineapple and pink peppermint piglets out of scoops of peppermint ice cream and frosting. (Make ahead and freeze until you need them). I also bought an old glass jar at a thrift shop and wrote "Hunny" on the side with nail poilsh. I filled it with punch and the kids called it "hunny pot punch" We played pin the tail on Eeyore with a gingerbread eeyore that I made (just buy gingerbread mix and shape it on a cookie sheet into eeyore) and tails made form red licorice whips looped around toothpicks and tied with ribbon. Everyone loved it! We have done theme parties ever since.
