My 10 year old sons birthday is in August (The hottest time of the year in the South), but I was determined to have a "Cool" birthday party for him. For his invitations I
printed a Big scorching sun on the front with "Andrew is turning a "Hot" 10 years old", and on the inside it said "So come cool off with him."
I asked each child to wear their swimsuits. We had his party in our front yard and I did rent a water basketball throw game which I had delivered 30 minutes early for the children who arrived early. (This was kind of pricy though) and I only rented it for 1 hour so that the children would only have 30 minutes to play it after the party started and would be gone so that I could have the kids attention for the rest of the pary time. Everything else was very inexpensive. The games we played were bobbing for apples, but with a little "Chill" to it. I put a couple of bags of ice in the tub with the water, and let me tell you, the kids loved it, because it was a lot more challenging to grab an apple in such cold water. Then I had a baby pool filled with ice water for anyone who just couldn't cool off any other way. The day before, I froze small water balloons and the day of the party, I took the balloons off the ice and kept them in an ice chest until we played ice ball toss. I divided the children up and put them in two lines facing each other. They had to toss the ice ball back and forth and move back a little each time until someone dropped theirs. The last pair standing is the winner.(This is best if you can play this on concrete or a hard surface so when the ice balls drops, it will break). They then proceded to go to the next game which was by far their favorite. I ordered two 10 pound blocks of ice ( You can order from an ice house and it is only around $5.00 each), and had a contest to see who could sit on the ice the longest. I timed each child and wrote their time down. I just knew a boy would win since the girls swimsuits were so much skimpier, but a girl did win by sitting on the ice for about 12 minutes. I never realized they would sit on the ice for so long and started to worry about frost bite, but no one complained and the parents thought it was great!! This game can take a long time depending on how many chilren you have, so you might want to set a time limit and see if each child can reach that time and give each one a small prize. We finished the party with cake, of course ice-cream, and their party favors was the candy they got from the piniata. This was by far the best party my son ever had and the kids can't wait for the next "SUMMER" party at my house!!!
