My daughter has a December birthday, but she is always wanting a summer-pool party. So this year was the year! Our neighborhood pool is free of charge and has tables and chairs for our use. A responsible teenage lifeguard was sought from a local pool at a minimal charge. I decorated 3 round tables with different color table cloths. Keeping the same 3 colors I supplied napkins, plates, cups and forks to each table. All 3 tables had different colors but they all matched the same 3 colors. I decorated slightly with the same 3 colors of crepe paper around the pool.(didn't need much, balloons were almost enough)I made a round-2-tier cake and decorated it like a pool, using candy life savers as "life savers" and teddy grams as the children in the pool. I also made chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with the 3 main colors of icing as an eye catcher. On a separete table I used a different colored viberant table cloth and displayed the food. (Using cookie cutters)We had Ham sandwiches cut into the letters "Happy Birthday", peanut butter and jelly cut into pool party, and cheese sandwiches cut into my daughter's name. Walmart supplied the bowls, again all different colors but matching the 3 main colors of the table cloths.  For snacks I provided a mixture of chips, nips, pretzels, and cereals in one large fish bowl. Balloons were attached to each child's goodie bag in their seat. Once the children arrived, pool time was first, with Marco-Polo, diving contests, a floating contest, pool tag, and balloon sinking contest. (Be sure to remove all pieces of balloons after you're done, some may pop) The top party game was an in the pool obstacle course. We place rings in the water to swim around, diving toys to gather, a raft to swim across the pool on, and fins and a snorkle to complete the course in. Use your imagination, this was FUN!! After eating, we opened presents to follow the 30-minute rule. While waiting for parents to come, they played in the pool with some items from their goodie bags. An idea I used from this site, was freezing some balloons that had a prize in each, the first to thaw the frozen ball, wins a special prize.(floating innertube)Contents of goodie bags: Dolphin squirter from Oriental Trading Co., Sponge ball for water, squirt gun, water balloons, beach ball from Oriental Trading Co., and a gift ticket for a dollar off Auntie Annes Pretzels. Be sure to take photos of the children playing in the pool to make personalized thank you cards.
