My daughter is turning 5 in July and we plan to utilize our pool for the event. The theme is Beach Party.  First, the invitations will be written on swim "floaties" since most of the children are just learning to swim.  We have one child that we are going to invite that doesn't use the floaties so I plan to write her invite on a beach ball.  We will be giving each child a sand bucket full of party favors: beachball, squirt gun, bubbles with wand, seashells and candy (including lifesavers).  For activities we will have the swimming in the pool, hula hoops and a fish shaped piñata hanging from a tree (no blindfolds).  Decorations will include a fishnet draped between two bushes with plastic fish attached, tiki torches (4), and a centerpiece on the deck table of sand and miniatures - beach chair, towel, bucket and shovel from my daughter's Barbie beach set.  The two tables holding the food will be a knee board (a short surf board) turned upside down and put on crates and the other table is a folding card table with two beach towels draped over them to cover it.  The food will be a 3 foot long submarine sandwich; peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut out with my fish cookie cutter;a snack mix of cheddar fish crackers, pretzels and peanuts;chips and dip;juice boxes and sodas;and watermelon slices. In the area in the yard next to the pool will be a sprinkler for the children to run through when they tire of the pool.  For the adults we will have a blue tinted punch with floating ice cubes with small toys in it - palm trees, fish, etc. The children will eat their food on a cheap paper plate set in a frisbee which the children will take home with them. In the background we will have the Beach Boys belting out their big hits.  Most of the items I bought at dollar stores, Wal-Mart and Target stores and party stores. Hope you like my ideas.
