I wanted to do something fun for my girls (ages 7 and 9)before their summer vacation was over so I decided to have a "Girlfriends Pool Party".  We invited 10 of their closest friends from school.  Most of whom they had not seen all summer. Invitations were written on beach balls and mailed in  8x11 envelopes. Menu: 1. "Peanut butter and Jellyfish" sandwiches (cut bread with fish shaped cookie cutters and add peanut butter and jelly). I served the sandwiches on a large fish shaped platter. 2. Chips and dip 3. "Crab Cakes":  I baked cupcakes (yellow) and topped them with strawberry flavored frosting.  I inserted mini chocolate chips for eyes and for legs I used sour punch strawberry candy straws (licorice) cut into 2 inch pieces.  I inserted three on each side of the cupcakes. (Made to look like crabs) 4. Drinks:  Mondo drinks (blue) served in a large clear plastic bowl with a little blue food coloring added to the ice water and I labeled the bowl "Ocean Water" written on blue construction paper cut into the shape of a wave. 5. Individually wrapped Life Savers candy was offered in a fish shaped bowl with a lifesaver shaped label that read, "For your safety, Life Savers are provided".  6. I served gold fish cheddar crackers in fish shaped bowls. Usually the children are too busy in the pool and don't want to stop playing to eat.  When they saw what I was serving, they were ready to eat in no time.  I inserted small fish shaped toys inside balloons and filled the balloons with water. (one toy per balloon) I placed the balloon in the freezer overnight.  Once the balloons were frozen solid, I removed the balloon and gave each child a "frozen ball". The first one to thaw the ball in the pool and get the toy was the winner.  (This way every child receives a prize. I found the toys at one of the Dollar stores).  Be sure to offer sunblock to the kids who may have forgotten to bring theirs. Since most of the moms wanted to stay at the party, I made a Taco Dip and served Tortilla chips, a fruit bowl and different kinds of sandwiches. The party was a big hit with the parents and kids alike.  I plan on doing this again this summer. Most of the serving bowls I found at Wal-Mart. They were very inexpensive ($1 - $3 each).
