Rock Star Party 5yr

June 2009

Patti in Collegeville, PA  USA

I had a rock star themed party for my 5 yr old son.  I combined some ideas I found on this site and many of my own. The invitations looked like a concert ticket saying Party Like a Rock Star" with all the details and the section row and seat were all 5. As the kids arrived I had drawn big chalk stars on the driveway; each one had a guest's name in it.  Then I lined the sidewalk from the driveway to the front door with red wrapping paper so the kids walked the red carpet. Most of my decorations and favors were bought from OTC. At the door the kids walked through a cascading door hanging decoration of records and guitars.  I had other decorations of hanging records music notes stars and a rotating multi-colored light ball. Luckily his birthday is in the summer so we could have the party in the backyard. For a stage we bought cinderblocks and plywood covered them with a silver plastic tablecloth and got the GREAT stage backdrop from OTC and my husband is a musician so he had his big speakers on either side. Before the party I had emailed each mom asking what their child's favorite song was.  I made a playlist on my iPod of these and a bunch of other rockin (rock pop and kids) songs which blasted on the speakers throughout the party.  We had all our kid instruments out as well as a bin of dress up gear  boas beads green wig blue hairspray (surprisingly none of the kids would try this!)  the kids LOVED rocking out to the music.  We did a scavenger hunt to find their favors of electric guitar goodie bags star-shaped sunglasses light up bracelets tattoos and stickers pop rocks candy and inflatable guitars. The boys did a rock star foam frame craft the girls a rock star charm bracelet craft. They played pin the sunglasses on the rock star I printed and cut out the sunglasses on the computer and we used a (really) old Who poster of my husband's. We had a guitar pinata of course.  I made an iron-on tshirt that said Devon's 5th Birthday Rocked! and had all the kids sign it with fabric markers. The cake was my pride and joy shaped like a Les Paul guitar: one 9x13 cake cut down to the shape of the base another for the neck.  The knobs were upside down peanut butter cups the toggle switch a mike-n-ike the tuners gumdrops the strings dental floss (licorice strings just wouldn't sit right). I also made a CD for each guest with all their favorite songs on it the label also said Devon's 5th Birthday Rocked!  The kids all had a great time and because I got so much cheaply on OTC it probably cost me the same as if I had a party at a bounce place or something!"
